This is a very small but well maintained museum. It provides you with some history and many artifacts of Belize. Something nice to do if the weather is bad or you need something to do "in-between" other activities.

We had an afternoon to spend in Belize City so we decided to go look for some souvenirs. After purchasing the souvenirs that we wanted, we were really hot and decided to go to the museum since it was nearby. It seemed like a safe neighborhood for walking. We didn't have any problems. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice, cool, and refreshing the museum was. The air conditioning was wonderful! It was worth the $5 entrance fee just for the AC. The museum is in the old jail. The inside of the building is really neat. I loved the old stamp collection and the insect exhibit. Other exhibits included mayan history, history about the jail, logging and transportation history. There was a small gift shop. The bathrooms were clean. A good visit for an hour or 2...maybe longer if you want to stay in the air conditioned building! It's worth a stop if you have a few hours to spare in Belize City.

compared to the other sites in Belize City this is the best. A lot of this stuff could be learned from wikipedia. there are a few artifacts here to chronicle belizean history.

The museum of Belize--as a building--has quite a fascinating history of being a jail. Part of an old jail cell is still there and has been turned into an exhibit. This 2-story museum is packed with history--specializing in 2 areas: 1) Transportation (which sounds boring but was fascinating) and 2) Mayan history. There is a lovely collection of jade on the second floor and some interesting (who knew?) type exhibits on both levels. It took us a bit over an hour to see the whole museum . We had a blast.

I visited the museum in May 2014.

The museum is a good size and contains some interesting exhibits about the history and wildlife of Belize.

The exhibits that I found most interesting were the currency and stamp collections.

Well worth a visit if you have a spare hour in Belize City.
