“Overpriced and Poor service”
Reviewed 10 July 2012

We had great expectations of this place after reading a positive review in an old Fodor's guide book. What a shock it was upon arrival. Our $85 queen bedroom was little small, so the owner offered to move us to a larger one for the additional few dollars which was totally fine with us. The new room though with an access to a shared balcony, turned out to be stuffy, smelly and not too clean!! Dingy shower, small towels, but what really upset us was the poor breakfast next morning. They told us to be in the dining room by 8:30 because of the early flight; but the owners hardly nodded hello and made us wait for food almost an hour until other guests showed up in the dining room. Only the fruit was really fresh and good; the coffee very weak and we had to wait more than half hour for tea!! We were anxious and starved by the time they served a portion of chunky white only bread, greasy bacon and hard as a rock scrambled eggs.
Also the outside staircase is very inconvenient. The garden was overgrown, neglected and not set up for use at all!
It was the worst B &B we've ever stayed in! And it's not at all very close to the airport! I think the owners take advantage of the travelers who cannot afford one or two safe hotels in Belize City.

Our first time to Belize we stayed here for two nights and were warmly welcomed by Ottie and her husband. The place was clean and decorated lovely. We stayed in the Dove room and it was way worth the money. Breakfast was made by Ottie and crew each morning and was wonderful. There were birds and iguanas in the garden and fish to watch in the river on site. We'd stay there again as a pit stop before heading to the wonderful islands.

My husband and I stayed here the last night of our dream vacation in Belize so that we'd be closer to the airport. We didn't spend a lot of time here but did enjoy the night we spent. The owners are friendly, the room was quite comfortable, and breakfast was delicious! We enjoyed spending our last moments in Belize talking to fellow travelers and enjoy the flowers, birds, and lizards in the garden!

It was pouring with rain when the 3 of us arrived, my daughter, grandson and myself.
We were shown the room and I did not think it was worth the rate, so I offered much less, but without breakfast.
The owner accepted and we moved into the over furnished room.
We had to use an outside staircase to get to the room and we got soaking wet getting our luggage.
We had the use of wi.fi but the next morning it was turned off. We asked and were given a shrug as an aswer. We moved out

Room Tip: They are all over furnished, but there is one which seems larger, no doubt, even more expensive

I have to say this was the best experience we could have had. We stayed here as our home base from March 31st to April 10th. Started our days with a delicious breakfast. (something different each day) and drove our rental vehicle all over the country. Would come "Home" each night to share our adventures with OT and Gaby. They truly will be life long friends. Made us feel like we were part of their family, and they have a wonderful family. We stayed in the Dove Nest very clean and comfortable. The Garden outside is like visiting a botanical garden. OT will gladly show you around. Most people only stay one day on the way in or out of Belize. I would encourage you to stay more.... you will not be disappointed!!

Excellent choice for a place to stay when in Belize.! Gaby and Oty treat you the way you would want your grandparents to treat you. Homey, cozy, close to the city central (within 5 miles) and very safe. Defintely recommend it!! And Oty's breakfasts are to die for!

First, I have to say Belize City was pretty lame. We were only stopping in Belize City on the last day of our trip before our international flight home.
But, if you need to be in Belize City, stay at D'Nest. It's a bit pricey, but I think it was worth it for feeling secure in what's considered a sketchy city. The owners live on the property, which gave me a vote of confidence about their attention to safety.
We stayed in Hummingbird, and the bed was really comfortable (even with memory foam pillows!). We also had a mini-fridge in the room, which was a nice touch.
It's located in one of the suburban areas, but only cost about $10 US from the bus station, so it wasn't too hard to get to. There is a small store in easy walking distance, and a few restaurants nearby for a slightly longer walk.
The owners were also really pleasant. I overheard one of the other visitors getting help from the owner to find a local dentist, and the owners offered to drive us to a restaurant for dinner since they were headed out.
I would stay here again.
