Altun Ha has an aura that makes you feel the former residents are silently watching you traipse across their scared place. The compact nature of the site makes it an excellent choice for a first time visitor seeking to get an idea of how these incredibly gifted people lived.
We had Brandon, a registered guide who we met as we parked, to walk us through. He was very informative and fun and totally worth the guide fee to truly understand what you are exploring. The scope of the excavation and restoration at Altun Ha makes it come to life. Do climb the main temple, view from the top of the entire site is worth the modest effort.
