It is just my opinion, but I don't understand all the positive press for this place. The rocks are VERY slippery due to algae. Two people from our group of 10 slipped and no, we aren't particularly accident prone. The pools are cool and refreshing but they are definitely river water and not particularly clear or clean.

The trip started out on a somewhat difficult note as the rode out to Pine Ridge is essentially and off road experience and since we did not know exactly how far everything is, it is a bit disconcerting. But, once we got to Rio On falls it was worth is. We were the only ones there for most of the day and my daughter loved playing in the pools created by the falls. The nature was beautiful and on our way back we could better appreciate how beautiful the whole forest was. Rio On is not one of the majestic large water falls, but we were told it was one of the best if you want to swim.

We stopped there on our way back from Caracol. Maybe the fact that it was 45 degrees celsius helped but we thought Rio on pools was a magical place. It was late faternoon so the place was almost empty. It is magical to swim the the waterfalls and ppols and surrounded by the beautiful view. Definetely a place to stop by.

After an adventure to Caracol or a day of hiking, this is a great place to cool off!

The pools are shallow and great to lounge in, but be careful because the rocks are slippery! There are also no 'formal' facilities, so be sure to bring your own refreshments or food.

Nice place to stop in and take a dip. There is a little informal spot for parking, a little wooden enclosure where you can change, and you can throw your stuff on one of the rocks while you swim. Definitely helpful after a day of hiking and sight-seeing in 90-degree weather.
