Nick and his wife shannon are mid way through converting this cozy inn into a great hotel. The budget rooms are clean but basic, a little artwork and air conditioning wouldn't go amiss, as it was hot at night, however for the value, we have no complaints at all! The more expensive rooms do offer air con, and they still offered fantastic value for money!
Nick has a good knowledge of Belize and was more than willing to offer his advice and help when looking to book tours and excursions.
The breakfast was excellent, the fried jacks were by far the best we had across the whole of Belize!
Nick had discussed his future plans to begin serving high class international cuisine at affordable prices, which by the sounds of it should be in full swing by July, it's a shame we missed out on that, as we would have loved to try the British and Belezian and further afield combinations!

All in all, thanks again for a great stay, and if you bring some english tea, you will no doubt find an extra few fried jacks on your plate at breakfast!

Good luck and best wishes!

Room Tip: Just ask nick to show you a variety of rooms as there are three price brackets, and go from there!

We stayed here by accident, it was recommended by another motel that was full. The town of Belmopan is centrally located and very near the cave tubing and zip-line places like Jaguar Paw.
The new management was extremely helpful and we felt instantly welcome. The owner Nick is such a wonderful host and his knowledge of the things to do, eat, see was so very helpful. He will book tours or excursions if you like. We ended up staying here 2 nights. The rooms are pretty basic but very clean and functional. Our friend left his camera there and Nick was nice enough to track us down and send it to San Ignacio with one of his employees. I would definitely come back to the El Rey Inn in Belmopan. Thank you Nick!

The first thing I should mention is that El Rey has changed management within the past couple of months, and is currently undergoing complete renovation. The new owner, Nick, is a hotelier by trade, and boy, does he know what he's doing. He and his Belizean wife have transformed this rustic inn into a cozy hotel that is extremely affordable.

One of the best parts of the new hotel is that the front of it has been transformed into a dining area. We requested a breakfast before turning in on the first day, and upon waking up the morning, were greeted by ample fruit, toast & jam, fry jacks (a Belizean breakfast treat!), beans, and eggs. It was one of the best breakfasts we had in Belize. They will also cook you a three course Belizean dinner for $17 US.

There are several different types of rooms. We got the bare minimum, which was more than enough for us. Nick(the owner) showed up the more upscale rooms, which looked like honeymoon suites! I HIGHLY recommend staying at El Rey. You would be hard-pressed to find better for the price in Belmopan.

P.S: Nick will offer you a goldmine of tips about where to stay and go during your vacation. He seems to know Belize like the back of his hand. He will even hook you up with a discount hotel rate with his travel company.
