We were staying at the San Ignacio Resort and one of the first things my kids wanted to do was see the iguanas and they were not disappointed. They liked it so much they went back a second time, very educational and fun. They also participated in a jungle trek with another member of the San Ignacio Resort staff who pointed out different fauna, insects and the like - again kids had fun and learned all about the jungle including how gum was made.

We stopped here on our way out of the Cayo district to Belize City. Very interesting and fun. We all enjoyed holding big and little iguanas and learning all about them. As a mom, I appreciated the fact they wash the little guys before you hold them and have soap/water/hand sanitizer after the experience. A unique, memorable experience, highly recommended if you like holding creatures.

It now cost Bz$18 dollars for adults, you will have a guide that explains everything and helps with you and the iguanas. This project is housed within the San Ignacio Resort Hotel grounds, where the work to breed and raise the endangered green iguanas is done, before releasing them into the wild. This project is self-sustaining through the fees charged to visitors. It is an interactive exhibit so come prepared to touch, hold and feed the iguanas. You can also sponsor and name one of the dragon like reptiles (www.sanignaciobelize.com).

We went to the Iguana Project on our last day in San Ignacio and absolutely love the experience. Our tour guide was not shy to give us tons of iguanas to hold and interact with! Watch out though - despite what the tour guide says the iguanas will jump on you! I got quite the amazing surprise when 2 adults jumped right on my shirt! A wonderful experience.

Nice tour, and the Iguanas are amazing! They let you feed the Iguanas and even put them on your head. It was so cool that I didn't even mind one pooping on me! ( a rare occurrence and there was a place to wash up near by)
