We did the ATM Cave (which is a MUST for any adventure junkie), Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, and Jaguar Paw. Our guides were amazing entertaining and very well educated and we had such a good time with them on the awesome adventures! A delicious lunch was also provided on full day tours!

Imagine our delight when Dora agreed to take my daughter and I to the Barton Creek Cave on short notice on a Sunday morning! Dora was very friendly and we so enjoyed learning from her about the cave, nearby Amish colony, current/past Belizean culture and the surrounding area. She was the only female guide that we encountered on our 2 week trip and appreciated her skill, safe approach and her courage to break into a male dominated career. We enjoyed every minute that we spent with her! Ask for Dora when you book with Cayo Adventure Tours!

This was our first trip to Belize and we couldn't have been more impressed with Cayo Adventure Tours. They did a wonderful job arranging tours for our family (8 total, coming from two locations). Our guide Diego was fabulous (the kids loved him!) and I swear he had as much fun as we did. He expertly guided us through Calico Jacks in the morning, provided a delicious picnic lunch, then took us cave tubing in the afternoon. Everything went so seamlessly that we booked a last minute tour of Barton Creek cave as well. Sure enough, they were at our hotel at 8:00 the next morning ready to go. All in all, they were, prompt, professional, and did everything they promised. I highly recommend their services!

Day 1: Met at the departure gate by our driver as agreed, and were able to stop to get our phone rental which took 45 minutes (Ugh) but our driver was unfazed....we even stopped for a great lunch on the drive to San Ignacio and got a great history of the Cayo district along the way. Day 2: Ben was our guide to the ATM Caves. He picked us up on time, was exceptionally patient with all our questions. He was an exceptional guide to the Mayan culture, agricultural history of the area, and so much more! In addition he was an outstanding professional about protecting the natural resources and artifacts, taking great care that we did not disturb either the artifacts nor the limestone/crystal formations within the cave. The lunch provided by Cayo Tours was really yummy, including tasty sandwiches, bananas, and homemade cupcakes! Day 3: Diego met us at the hotel early.....we were just finishing breakfast, so he introduced himself and we could tell we were in great hands for our "Cave Tubing" adventure! Diego is your guy if you love birding, or want to do some adventure rock climbing - he's full of energy and enthusiasm, and always looks out for guests safety. We were on a more "relaxed" day of tubing, but we thoroughly enjoyed our day with Diego. This was normally only a half day tour, but he also allowed us time to stop and have a lunch at the lodge, and a shopping trip on our way home. Day 4 - we had originally planned a return to Belize City to meet our boat, but changed our plans to drive to Placencia just a few days earlier. This "change" apparently wasn't relayed to our driver, but after waiting about 15 minutes past our appointed pick-up time I called the office and our driver was there in under 10 minutes! What service! Our drive along the Hummingbird Highway was delightful - we had the same driver from day one (cannot recall his name but he was a lovely fellow) and he was full of wonderful information about the history of this region, including details about the farming and growers that have developed this region, farming methods used by the locals, the history of trains in this region, and more.....making this a wonderfully rich experience.
Cayo Tours rates were very reasonable, and the VALUE of what we received was immeasurable! I would only recommend Cayo Tours! They really go above and beyond to make your tours Special!

Overall, my group of friends had a good experience with Cayo Adventure Tours (CAT) for transport to Hidden Valley Inn and the ATM cave tour (prices were much more reasonable than most hotel offered for both).

The coordinator, Heidi, was extremely responsive via email and accommodated every request we had, right up to our last minute changes to the schedule.

Our van driver Benji was extremely nice, patient and helpful! He was right on time to pick us up, waited without complaint for all 16 of us to get through immigration/customs, packed up alll our bags in their comfy and well-maintained van, shared random information as we asked about what we saw along the road, and was back to pick us up in the morning. He also waited at the ATM trail entrance while we did our tour and took us to the water taxi terminal with time to spare!

Our ATM tour guides, on the other hand, were neither nice nor helpful. The tall dark guy (Lenny?) with my half of the group was a bit grumpy at first, though he seemed to loosen up a bit later in the tour as he got to know us better - then he started being more friendly and pointing our some interesting things that weren't scripted like vegetation. Still, he struggled a bit to communicate some of his knowledge about the Mayan culture/artifacts, but we could tell he was trying hard and he even took us down some fun tight routes that other guides weren't taking. Half of our group unfortunately ended up with a different guide, a short hispanic guy whose name I can't remember. He was even more grumpy and apparently didn't have much to say other than the obvious "there's a pot". From the beginning, he was rude to us about taking things along to the cave entry and even made snide remark about my friend in creole, thinking I wouldn't understand when I am in fact Belizean. It seemed like those guides were subcontracted by CAT, not actual employees, so I didn't fault them entirely but hopefully CAT will stop using them as guides. The experience wasn't exactly ruined by them, but we definitely felt like we saw/heard other guides doing a better job.

The ATM caves themselves were spectacular! July was a great time of year to go since the air was warm and the water was cool. We wished we could've taken photos, but there was apparrently a strict rule of 'no cameras allowed'. Although it was built up to be an intense activity, being among a fairly active group I would rate it as moderate, definitely suitable for kids and adults that are generally active.

Also, the chicken burritos that they served us for lunch were among the best meals we had in Belize (or maybe we were just that hungry)! On a whole, I recommend them as a reputable company that you can rely on to get the job done and get you where you need to be, all for a very reasonable price!
