We're a couple that generally try staying off the beaten path, and are especially wary of guided tours. That being said, our experience with Maximum tours was really unforgettable. When looking for a day trip to Tikal, Maximum were the only ones who guaranteed a small group (6). During the trip itself, the guides were helpful and informative, expedited our border control process and went out of their way to accommodate special requests for stops on the way back.

In short, can't recommend them highly enough.

Max and Douglas made this tour easy and memorable, The guide at Tikal, Luis, was knowledge and passionate about the Mayan world and we learnt lots., It would have been nice to have had a little time to ourselves aat Tikal itself and it was a shame that we were unable to have lunch in the park rather than i a gift shop on the way back to Flores. Maximum tours also organised a reasonably priced trip for us back to Belize City from San Ignacio. Recommended.

Max and his brother started our tour off by picking us up at our lodging near Belmopan, offering us coffee, making the boarder crossing simple and easy, and then the tour of Tikal was over the top with mr.Lewis(a walking encyclopedia). We ate lunch amidst Mayan ruins (a delicious lunch provided by the tour) and howler monkey and felt at ease with the friendly service offered to us throughout the whole day and experience. Thank you!

My wife and I stayed in San Ignacio for 5 full days in December 2013 for the sole purpose of visiting Maya ruin sites. Two of these - Tikal and Caracól - required either logistical assistance (Tikal with the distance and the border crossing) or 4WD transport (Caracól being a good 1 3/4 hours on backcountry roads). The quality of these experiences is primarily based on the guides assigned. For Tikal we had a driver, a "handler" and a guide. The handler simply accompanied us for the entire day. The guide was picked up and dropped off near the site. Our handler was Douglas and while he was a pleasant companion, eventually we were treated to an evangelic religious "sales pitch". Couldn't say much except "we respect your beliefs but they aren't ours". The guide, Luís, was very knowledgeable but several times during the tour he briefly lurched off into left field about lay lines, energy centers and markings having been found on Mars with the same layout as Tikal. Ahhh. OK. For Caracól we were connected with John August as both driver and guide. Excellent in both areas! John was knowledgeable and companionable and a superb driver. Never wandered off into Never-Never Land. We were so pleased with him that we had him drive us to El Pilar where we used the UC Santa Barbara guidebook so John really didn't serve as guide there. And we had John drive us back to the airport in Belize City.

We talked with Max for a while and he impressed us as being a straightforward and honorable person. So go with Max and ask for John August.

After a last minute rain cancellation to ATM with Pacz, we booked a trip to Crystal Cave near the inland blue hole, with Max's. It was a fantastic day and our guide, Diego, was spectacular! I would specifically request him, if we ever go back.
