The Rainforest Haven Inn was excellent. I paid $45 for an air conditioned room with bathroom. I was near the downtown section of San Ignacio and could easily walk to lots of eating establishments. While all tour offices were close by, the Inn's manager arranged our tours for us. We found when on tours, that we were paying the least of those on the tours from other hotels. Apparently, some hotels add a charge, but ours apparently didn't as the charges weren't any different than the offices in town charged. The manager also gave us excellent recommendations for places to eat, and even accepted an invitation for dinner and drove us to an excellent and reasonably priced restaurant and was a pleasure to have at dinner with us. She shared lots of anecdotal stories about San Ignacio and Belize. It was, all in all, an excellent stay, with visits to Caracol, waterfalls, Xunantunitch, Actun Tunichil Muknal National Monument (ATM) cave and underground river, Tikal in Guatemala, and just the great and friendly people of San Ignacio. If you are looking for a resort style place out of town and in the jungle or along a river, this is not it, but if you want a low cost clean room, great and quiet environment, clean kitchen area, and very friendly and responsive staff (ran right out and bought a new blender when the one there died; had to have our smoothies!), this is the place!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Unlike a new hotel, the Rainforest Haven Inn in San Ignacio, Belize is an historical structure, formerly home to Busman Arnold, a Belizean entrepreneur. Each room is unique with air conditioned, cable TV, private hot and cold bath, mini refrigerator and free WiFi. What makes us unique is that we are the only accommodation in the downtown area that offers a roof deck with a 360 degrees view. Guests have access to a full kitchen on the third floor which is perfect to make a quick meal, warm your food or make some coffee. We are about a 3-5 minute walk to restaurants, grocery shops, banks, tour agencies, bus terminal etc. Everything is very close without feeling like you are in the thick of it.
