We stayed at Duplooys in part because of the Botanical Gardens, and my moms loves birding (we heard this was the place to be if you were a birder) and we were not disappointed. We went to the botanical gardens on a few occasions, and it was as if it got better each time. The amount of work that they have put in to create such an amazing establishment is just incredible. The trees, flowers, plants, etc. were amazing, and helped you really get a feel for the ecological culture of Belize.
We walked around and saw lizards, geckos, iguanas, etc. as well as many different kinds of birds including kingfishers, a rail, flycatchers, multiple kinds of woodpeckers, toucans, parakeets, robins, and so much more. It didn't matter whether we stopped to sit on a bench and just observe what was around us, or whether we were walking around, the nature came to life! My favorite part was the medicinal trail which told you what all kinds of plants and trees could be used for to treat illnesses. It was incredible how you could treat almost anything with these plants, trees and flowers.
I would highly recommend this to anyone (Staying at Duplooys or not) if you are at all interested in birds, flowers, plants or any aspect of nature. We even saw a kingfisher catch a fish and sit with it in its mouth for over 10 minutes!
