“the perfect start to an amazing honeymoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2012

My husband and I kicked off our Belizean honeymoon adventure with three nights at the Lodge at Chaa Creek and could not imagine having started off at any other place. Unfortunately we missed Prince Harry's visit to the lodge by a week! The lodge was awesome and definitely unique! The incredible rainforest atmosphere was equally matched with impeccable hospitality. Our stay included daily breakfast which to our surprise ended up being a very extensive and delicious menu! Every day the lodge offers a special meal (for breakfast and dinner) along with at least 5 additional meals - all complimentary!

The staff at Chaa Creek was simply amazing and helped make our jungle experience even more fulfilling- from setting up transfers and excursions to making local recommendations, they were on it! One of our most memorable excursions was free (believe it or not) - we canoed from the resort to the town of San Ignacio where we spent the afternoon hitting up the local bars (Mr. Greedy's, Flayvas) and ate at a local restaurant (Ko-ox Han-nah).

My first trip to Belize we stayed only in San Pedro. My second trip I wanted to experience the jungle also. Chaa Creek is expensive but you get your money's worth. The first morning I woke up with the mist over the Maya Mountains I was enthralled. The early morning bird walk is not to be missed. I felt satisfied when I saw the Keel -Billed Toucan and a green parrot. We canoed down the river and enjoyed ourselves so much. We wandered around San Ignacio, had a wonderful lunch and were transported back to the lodge. The second day we visited the butterfly farm and were very impressed. We went to Bartons Cave which was beautiful. The lodging was wonderful, the food great, but the real reason we enjoyed it so much, and will return are the people who work there. All of our guides and the drivers to and from the airport were wonderful genuine people. The manager Ben Awe could not have been more helpful. Thank-you Ben for making our trip so wonderful!

Had an amazing time at the River Camp...great rooms and wonderful food prepared for us. Lodge was clean, eco-friendly and right in the middle of the jungle. Rooms are comfy, 2 ingle beds, oil lamps, balcony and hammock. Showers hot and plenty of clean towels. Able to walk to the pool and facilities at the lodge. Just amazing and we met some great people there too!.

traveling by car to visit the nearby ruins, we found that the ferry was shut for the day. So instead of going right back to Belmopan, we stopped at Chaa Creek for a drink. it was a sangria special, and the waiters and staff were charming and welcoming.

we decided to book a couple of nights. Our stay could not be more enjoyable, the howlers at night made for 3 am entertainment, the food is great and the staff, supurb. Try the horseback riding through the jungle - Roberto is a great guide, and the canoe trip on the creek, great fun. Highly recommended for those that like the jungle side of Belize.

Room Tip: cottage 13 is near the howler's favorite fig tree, cottages 9 and 10 have a wondeful creek view.

We stayed at Chaa Creek for 4 nights earlier this month. We stayed in the Orchid Villa- shared it with another couple. We loved the space; the veranda was our favorite part. The separate sleeping bays afforded us privacy but the open design- straight to the thatched roof- was awesome. Cool breezes at night and almost no bugs made it very comfortable without AC. I had two spa treatments- a pedicure and a massage- and really enjoyed it. The massage was on the veranda, right near sunset. The food was fresh and tasty, the two vegetarians in our group always enjoyed the organic vegetables and simple preparations. The meat-eaters found some meals better than others, but overall, we were pleased. The staff are so friendly! I wanted my massage later in the afternoon so we could go horseback riding first, and they stayed late just for me. We also missed the rice and beans and the lovely concierge called to see if the kitchen could make us a special order. We did several activities and trips and they arranged everything! I wish our villa had a jacuzzi tub or outdoor shower, as I think some of the other cottages do, so decide in advance what features you'd like and ask!!

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 9/11yr olds) stayed for 2 nights at the River Camp and then 1 night at the lodge. Everything was fantastic! The lodge is what I would consider clean and somewhat upscale eco-friendly camping. It is solar powered. There are flush toilet/outhouses and hot water showers. There are oil lamps in the room for use at night time. Bring your flashlight so you can find your way to the bathroom at night. The room/cabin was very clean and the food - both breakfast and dinner - was really quite good. The kids loved the river camp - hearing the sounds of the jungle (howlers, birds, etc), sleeping in a cabin - was all a warm welcome from our busy urban life. It's about a 10 minute walk up to the lodge if you want to use the pool. It's also easy to hop a ride from Dosio if you are running late to meet your tour guide :) Highly recommend this place if you want to try a taste of camping in the jungle!

The Lodge too was fantastic. The kids enjoyed the pool and especially enjoyed the hammocks on the balcony outside our room. We had a very spacious room with two double beds, a very nice bathroom with a double shower and an outdoor shower. The food was very nice - although a bit pricey. Overall, the grounds are very well kept and the staff friendly. Would highly recommend this place to both families and couples.

Yes, the prices for the tours are more than what you can get elsewhere - but not so bad. We had read that the prices were high so we booked through Belize Nature Travel (which was great) but I think the guides at Chaa are probably very good too. We had a terrific horse back ride through the grounds with their stable manager and I was impressed at how knowledgeable he was about Mayan history. He really made the ride educational and fun. Highly recommend doing the horseback riding at the Lodge while you are there. We didn't have enough time to explore the butterfly farm. Next time we'll have to stay longer!

Chaa Creek is fantastic. My husband and I loved every minute of it when we spent 6 nights there at the beginning of this month (Feb). It rained most days but you are in the rainforest so live with it! Our cottage overlooked the Macal river and we sat on our deck every morning to listen to the Howlers. The people who work there are wonderful - efficient, friendly and genuinely eco-minded. As soon as the owner knew I had joint problems and couldn't cope with long hikes he arranged for me to go on a tour with my own guide and a vehicle. And, no, he didn't charge me for it although I expected to be. And the guide, David, found a Potoo for me to photograph which was the highlight of my holiday in Belize. This place is amazing; you can be as active or as lazy as you want. If Caracol seems too far then go to Xunantunich which is an amazing Mayan ruin that you reach by ferry. I will warn people that from my limited experience of Belize all bills come with a Government tax of 12.5% and a compulsory 10% service charge so the price on menus etc is not the price you'll eventually pay. But please don't let this deter you from going to Chaa Creek - it's heavenly.
