A unique experience. Not inexpensive but if you are only getting to Belize once, this is an amazing place to stay. Neat individual cottages and grounds. Excellent activities. Tour guides were terrific. Food is very good. Plan to be active to get the most out of the area.

We have traveled a lot around the world, but rarely had such a great experience as with Docio and his family in the Macal Creek camp. Docio goes out of his way to make you comfortable and happy: It was an amazing feeling to have someone looking out to make sure you made it up in time to get to your activity, or was paying attention to hold dinner in case you got back late. His attention upped the already high relaxation factor at the camp. If there is a Nobel prize for taking care of travelers, Docio should win it.

We would like to include our review based on our three night stay at the camp casita at the Mecal River Camp. Firstly, we decided to rent a car and drive to the lodge and I would like to state that we did find it very difficult to follow the driving instructions. We both wish that the owners of the lodge created more signs on the major roads for those who choose to drive to the lodge with a rental vehicle. We both got lost because Belize does not have any road signs and we showed up at the lodge late. We will state that although we came very late the family that supervises the Mecal Camp Ground awaited for us upon arrival (10 pm) and still served us our dinner which we were very very grateful. The family that supervises The Mecal River Camp were very warm and welcoming. Our entire stay was very comfortable and this includes the beds that were provided for us as well as the clean showers and clean bathroom facilities. I would also like to add that considering this is a rain forest we did not have any mosquito issues which made our stay extra comfortable. The best thing we enjoyed was the traditional Belizean cuisine, this family makes amazing food and for that we would return in a heart beat. I should also add that they were accommodating to my vegetarian diet. We can't think of one negative thing to say about our stay at The Lodge at Chaa Creek and we honestly wished we booked our stay longer. One tip I must include is that if you choose to stay at the Camp Casita I recommend you bring a flash light.

What a wonderful place Chaa Creek Lodge is. We spent four nights here as part of an 18 day trip to Belize from Scotland. It lived up to expectation in every way. The accommodation was superb. We stayed in Cottage No.18 which boasted an outdoor shower and twin indoor showers. Such luxury in the middle of the rainforest where frequent showers are all too necessary due to the humidity. Huge fans kept the cottage cool and comfortable though. The surroundings are so beautiful and everything has been planned to compliment the natural environment. The staff are so friendly, helpful and interesting to talk to. There are so many different trips and activities. We particularly enjoyed the birding with Micha and the horseriding with Robert. The infinity pool or the Spa on the hill are a must at the end of an active day. I had an aromatherapy massage in the balmy open-air with the sound of the various birds and the howler monkeys in the background. For me, Chaa Creek certainly is my idea of a little piece of heaven.

We stayed for two nights at the Macal River Camp at Chaa Creek after crossing over from Guatemala and before heading to the Cayes. The whole experience was brilliant! The camp has everything you need with clean toilets and hot showers. The homestyle cooked meals were excellent and plentiful. The best advantage is that you can access all the onsite activities including use of the canoes for free (upriver), the rainforest trails and the gorgeous infinity pool, but for a fraction of the price of staying at the lodge.
This is a really good option if you are on a budget but still want to experience the rainforest. We saw toucans, lots of butterflies and heard the howler monkeys every day.
You should note though, that the casitas have no electricity (we loved coming back to our casita in the evening once the kerosene lamps had been lit!) and if you don't like camping and outdoor living then this is probably not for you.
I would definitely recommend the river camp for a relaxing experience- swinging in our hammock and listening to the sounds from the forest was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Belize!

We just returned from a 5 day, 4 night stay at Chaa Creek Lodge, and I can't praise it enough! We were a family of 11, which is a lot of people to make happy - but they did it and wonderfully! The grounds, the staff, the accommodations, the excursions, the guides (so knowledgeable) and all the equipment that they supplied us with were first class. The salt water pool and the horseback riding, the spa visits - not to mention the wonderfully prepared food and drinks really made our getaway a trip to remember. My only regret is that it ended too quickly.........Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fantastic jungle visit.

Room Tip: I absolutely loved my tree house and it's view of the Macal river and the howler monkeys.

We have recently returned from 5 nights at Chaa Creek at the end of 2 weeks in Belize. It was the highlight of the holiday. It is an immaculately run establishment with lots to do, both in and around the Lodge to trips further afield. We did the various tours at Chaa Creek, went horse riding, and visited Tikal and Barton Creek caves. All memorable.

We upgraded after one night to a tree-top suite and this was everything that it might be. Both rooms we had were very comfortable and appropriately equipped. The food was good and varied. Great cocktail bar. Super pool to unwind in. And all run by very friendly and efficient staff.

My wife also went to the spa a couple of times and loved the coma massage - as did every other guest that tried it.

Room Tip: Tree-top suites are well worth the extra money.
