“Best Vacation Spot”

I can't say enough about this place. We had such a wonderful vacation. Chaa Creek is a small family owned resort in the middle of the rain forest in Belize. Close to Mayan ruins, amazing caves, has horseback riding on the premises. The food was amazing and they grow it themselves on their organic farm.
Their spa is outstanding, the staff is the most hospitable that I have ever experienced. The other guests were lovely and fun. It was just an enchanted vacation.

We had traveled here 2 years ago with adult friends. This time we returned with our 11 yo and 14 yo. It was just as good as before. The food is wonderful, and is the reason we went here originally. The tours are well guided, and reasonably priced. We went on the ATM tour this time and this is where our one problem occurred.

Chaa Creek hires a guard to stay with your car. We had not had any problems with this before. This time when we returned we discovered that we had $40 in cash missing as well as an ipod nano. We reported it to the hotel. However, as expected, have not heard anything back. Just a warning to all future traveles: Take the bare minimum on these tours.

The spa was excellent and the grounds were full of activities. It is a wonderful place to go, and if I ever return to the Jungles of Belize, I would definitely stay there again. Study the sight before you go. It is a very accurate representation of the hotel. Remember you are in the Jungle!

Room Tip: For a splurge for couples get a Tree Top Suite. All the rooms are nice.

We stayed at Chaa Creek as the second part of our 'mini tour of Belize' after 3 nights at Chan Chich at Gallon Jug.

Chaa Creek is really great and is a good base for day trips to both Tikal (breathtaking) and ATM tour (fantastic). We had an all inclusive package which sadly didn't include drinks (as we spent far too much money on yummy cocktails)!!!

The staff are great and the horse riding there is fab. The horses are really well looked after and the trails are really quite exciting though a variety of different areas to add variety! I'm a competent rider but my husband is a novice and we both loved the 2 hours equally!

Swimming pool is lovely, especially at sunset, bikes to hire are good but you have to be fit (unlike me) to get the most out of them - quite hilly! The only reason for not giving 5 stars is because I was missing Chan Chich whilst we were there, Chaa Creek is a little more commercialised although still gorgeous, so I was pining a bit for my remote little hut in the middle of the jungle!!

We saw a lot of wildlife around Chaa Creek though, grey foxes near the butterfly farm, iguanas in trees near the restaurant, other big lizards near the bike hire area and great birds! We are both young and not really into birds but became slightly addicted to the 6am bird walk!!! It paid off as we ended up seeing 4 or 5 toucans quite close up before the majority off guests were up and about!!

We would recommend to anyone looking for a civilised jungle experience :-)

Do you enjoy glamping? The casitas at the Macal River camp are not only an excellent value, but very relaxing and you get to fully immerse yourself with favorite local dishes. My wife and I just got back from staying in the camp for 5 days this December.

Docio, the groundskeeper for the camp, and his family really take care of you and are willing to accomodate any food allergies or preferences into the meals they cook you. But I digress...

The casitas are spartan, but that is the point. They are relaxing and give you somewhere to rest your head, and each of them has a couple chairs and hammock that is good for a nice jungle nap. The camp is roughly 0.5-1 mile away from Chaa creek proper and is a decent hike with some inclines and declines, but my wife and I easily walked it multiple times a day when necessary.

Chaa Creek is beautiful, read some of the other reviews that detail the property, I just want to stress that all of these amenities are yours to use also while you stay at the camp which is wicked. All of the staff is awesome there, as I already said Docio was awesome, but our tourguides, the bartenders, and especially Rosa the concierge hooked us up. We booked most of our tours through Chaa Creek which at first seemed a little expensive but the value is not having to pay additional fees to be picked up at the resort. Like everything in Belize the resort, and most of the attractions are a little off the beaten path, but it is a fun adventure.

While staying at Chaa Creek you must get up early one day and go on the bird watching, I admittedly thought this would be lame, but Jeff our tourguide showed us all sorts of birds and we saw a ton of toucans and learned alot. Since it is close make sure you hit up Xunantunich, we went in the afternoon which was sweet because we basically had the run of the place by ourselves with our tourguide.

Back to the camp. The prepared meals are amazing, and feature often times the national dish of Belize as Docio will tell you beans and rice, or maybe even rice and beans. Not only are they delicious but it just adds to the great value of staying in the camp. The bathrooms, shared outhouses, are always super clean and a short distance from the casitas. The showers, are your run of the mill camping showers, propane heated and not always even temperature but they get the job done. Rough it for a couple of days, it is certainly worth it.

Chaa Creek is an oasis in the jungle of Belize. As soon as we stepped on the property, I knew that I had made the right choice booking Chaa Creek as a 30th birthday surprise. We were met with juice and wet towels to refresh ourselves from our long drive in, and then guided to our room.

We stayed in room 9, and although I had seen pictures online, my jaw dropped when I walked in. It was out of a movie and was even nicer than in pictures. We took an afternoon hike through the jungle, stopping at the butterfly farm, and continuing on through the medicine trail exploring a small 3 mile portion of the property.

That evening the staff set up a private candlelight dinner by the pool. The food was great and the service was wonderful. After dinner we went on the night hike. This was probably to most terrifying experience of my life, but my boyfriend loved it. Because the hotel is so luxurious, you kind of forget that you are in a real jungle. We saw tarantulas, boa constrictors, thousands of wolf spiders, etc.

We got back to the room and after doing a thorough spider check (I was freaked from our hike) we enjoyed the private hot tub on our porch over looking the Macal River and relaxed listening to the sounds of the jungle.

The next morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast before taking off - super good!

The only thing I regret was staying one night. Chaa Creek is amazing, and I would love to spend more time there.

Room Tip: If your trip is short and you can afford it - get room# 9 it is AWESOME.

We just got back from an excellent stay at Chaa Creek, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a jungle adventure in Belize. The grounds are beautiful, the cottages have thatched roofs fitting in well with the surroundings, and have all of the necessary amenities. While there isn't air conditioning or TV in the rooms, we never felt we needed either. Our days were active going to visit caves and Mayan ruins, or enjoying the spa and wonderful pool. Otherwise, we were in the bar/lounge area having a drink and meeting other guests. The restaurant had good food, with options that varied every night. Other reviewers had commented on the food and drink prices, but we felt it was reasonable.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They arranged our wonderful tours and provided invaluable advice. In addition, they kept the lodge and grounds looking like a jungle paradise.
The cottages seemed to be set up best for couples, rather than friends. The bathroom was very large with an outdoor shower. A window from the bedroom area opened up to the outdoor shower. Other rooms may have been set up differently.
We visited in early December as the rainy season ended. We had warm temperatures and on/off rain. There is definitely less to do in rainy weather. Luckily, the temperatures were in the low 70s at night and the ceiling fans kept the room at a nice temperature.
The wifi in the bar/restaurant area kept us connected to email and friends, but with so many other things to do, we didn't use it much.
Overall, we loved it at Chaa Creek. If you want an adventure vacation in the jungle area of Belize, this is a wonderful spot. However, as mentioned in other reviews, it is a bit isolated from the town if that is an issue. After a full day of adventuring, we generally just had dinner in the Chaa Creek restaurant and went to bed, so we never wanted nightlife. I'd say it is best for those who want to explore the area, rather than if you wanted to hang around a resort all day.

Room Tip: We had room 19 which was perfect. Other guests in rooms closer to the bar area said they had proble...
