“enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2014

We stayed here for a week in one of the cabins, which are spacious and comfortable with a conditioned double bed, hardwood floors and a hammock on the outside deck. they are air conditioned but a fridge would have been welcomed
we opted for the full board option which was a good deal. The menu, whilst not extensive, offered enough choices for a week and the food was not fancy but very good. Service is very friendly and accommodating but can be a bit slow.

The grounds are very attractive and the property has its own small nature trail, a very basic (and stifling hot) gym and a very cute, small infinity pool with decent sun loungers - although ther
aren't many of them which could be an issue when the place is full.

we pre-booked quite a lot of activities which were overall fine but expensive and you are probably better waiting until you arrive and organising through one of a number of tour operators in the town.

you can walk to San Ignacio town along the highway within 30 mins, although not at night as no sidewalk or lighting. However a taxi is only around 5 USD. The town is quite lively with shops and casualrestaurants and a good market on Saturdays. The proximity to the road mens it is vrry convenient, although the down side is you do get some traffic noise.

drinks at the resort are a bit pricey but there is a great bartender and for something refreshing and non alcoholic you must try the lime juices, which are wonderful.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would return

We were welcomed with a complimentary fruity drink and a bellhop came up to the Cabana to show us all the amenities. It was a beautiful big Cabana with two big beds, table, flat screen etc. The shower was great, but you have to understand "hot water on demand." If its slightly cool, turn back the pressure a bit and you will have lots of hot water. (still great water pressure) The beds were very comfy and the whole Cabana was very spacious and beautifully decorated. We walked the trail up behind and that was pleasant and interesting. It took us about 20 min to walk the middle trail and that is with a stop at the Chiclero camp. Ensure you check to see what is in the pot cooking on the fire. (I found 5 large spiders.. what will you find?) see pics. The dining room was very nice, the food was simply amazing. A three course fine dining meal for under $20US. The staff was excellent. (They even offered to roll us up the hill because we were so stuffed LOL) They have a bar which we quickly visited and a nicely equipped little gym which we quickly walked by every time. (for the cardio) The girl at the front desk / giftshop was extremely personable and helpful taking the time to explain the local fauna and flora. An extra Thumbs-up to the Chef(s) for their amazing rendition of Belizean cuisine. Don't forget that Xuantunich (Mayan Ruins) is just a couple kms down the road and is a MUST-DO. We would go back here in a second.

Room Tip: We were in cabana 24 which was up near the back, but still only a two minute walk to the lobby/bar/r...

This was our first trip to Belize, our first time visiting Central America and our first time not staying with either family or in a chain hotel. Windy Hill made us feel like we had just arrived home. The staff, grounds and our lovely cabin were so well presented, warm, friendly and considerate.
We didn't feel like first time visitors. We fell in love with the grounds where we were able to see native birds, and appreciated the pool though we were too busy to use it. The craftsmanship that you see throughout the grounds will impress you. The use of native woods and local artist helps to give you a real sense of the beauty and variety of this culture. It brings you in with a warmth that you will want more of. I loved being greeted each day by the staff and them genuinely wanting to know how we were doing and if we were enjoying ourselves. I loved the labeling of the native plants, what a bonus for us, as we meandered through the grounds spotting parrots and even an owl in the trees. It had everything we needed, they are helpful and have great prices on their tours of which we had time for one with was the closest named The Stone Maiden which is not to be missed if like us you only have a limited amount of time. We packed a lot in 4 days but we will be back, because there is so much more to see and do and Windy Hill was a great place to stay, to rest in our hammock, to see the stars, to just imagine living in that magical place that is Belize. Cayo District felt like a home away from home so I hope others will consider staying here, our first place in Belize that welcomed us and made sure we will return.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms are rustic but clean, comfortable and have everything you need. The rounds are very nice and clean. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
We did have difficulty finding the hotel. There is a few signs when you enter town, but they don't seem to lead you anywhere and it took us a while to find it. The other downfall is the restaurant. The food was very underwhelming, but it a short drive to town where there are some very good restaurants.

Right from arrival to departure, we were treated wonderfully by the staff! Terry helped us get settled after arriving late. The meals were fabulous and serving staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are rustic and adorable. The showers have plenty of pressure and hot water. We will be back again!

Thrilled with our 5 night stay here. Cottages with porch and hammock- perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. Rooms were simple but spacious, clean. What more do you need? Comfortable beds. Staff were lovely-service in the restaurant extremely professional, polite and courteous.Limited dinner menu but food was good. Breakfast ended up being a buffet each morning which was acceptable(yogurt, fruit, pancakes, oatmeal, eggs etc). One morning we were getting picked up early for a tour and we were able to pre-order our breakfast the night before so we could be ready on time. Valuables can be left in the office safe ( which ended up being an envelope locked in the cash drawer). Didn't use the pool as it was in the shade by the time we returned to the hotel each day. We quickly figured out we could take the public bus in to town by standing on the roadside and waving the bus down. It was a 5-10 min ride and cost us $1.50 for 2. The bus comes every 30min except Sundays is hourly. Never quite figured out the exact drive by time.

This is a basic, clean, comfortable hotel. Large grounds/lawn; small pool. Rooms are spread out, in cottages (ours was a duplex). Feels tropical. Fairly bare-bones and few frills, but just what we needed as a stopover on the way to Tikal. The on-site breakfast was simple (buffet with just a few basics), but fine. It seemed like it would have been a fine spot for dinner, too. It's on the west side of town -- probably a couple of miles from town, toward the Guatemalan border.
