We stayed at Windy Hill after cancelling our stay at a higher end resort which we found to be too isolated from town. We were very impressed with Windy Hill. While this is not a high end resort, it has everything you need. We had an air conditioned deluxe cabin with in-room wifi and a TV (rare in Belize!) The staff were very accomodating and the food at the resort was tasty. Benny at the front desk was extremely helpful The taxi into town is only $5 US (at our last resort it had been $25). The pool was fairly large, but not the fanciest and was missing some tiles (as well, the water was quite murky-but there were lots of kids using it all the time). The resort is closer to town, so not really in the jungle at all, but still fairly lush and we saw some cool birds.
I would certainly stay at Windy Hill again. It has all the basics and is a good base for exploring the general area.

Room Tip: Stay in a room with A/C!

I had a wonderful time at the Windy Hill Resort. My group used this resort as a “Home Base” for the following activities Cave tubing, Zip Line, Tikal, and the ATM cave. The property was well maintained and all the staff was very friendly. We had the “American food plan” which included breakfast and Dinner. The food was OK. The wait staff was fantastic. I had Amon as a waiter. I wanted a Mango which was in season and he brought me two from town the next day. He would not take any money for them. I found the cleaning staff to the front desk as accommodating. Do not depend on the internet. It only worked 20% of the time but when it worked it worked well. I don’t think that it was a Windy Hill issue but a Belize issue. The guides that they provided for the day trips were fantastic. I really liked staying here… the feel was simple clean and relaxing. I will return to this resort.

This is a very nice well maintained property. The weekend we arrived we were told that the new owners were taking over and were going to be making changes. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but only one or two people that we spoke to had worked there over a couple of weeks. When we asked questions that they didn't know the answers to they called in a guy that had worked there about 3 months, We found that to be kind of amusing. The grounds are beautiful and have a wonderful view. The cabins are older but clean and well maintained. As some have already mentioned it does take some patience to get hot water for a shower but maybe that will be something the new owners will change. I found the pool to be very nice. A little shade around the pool area would be nice. The wifi was very sporadic but we found this to be the case wherever we were at in Belize. We ate dinner there a couple of evenings and both of the waiters we had were great. Amon had been working there for several years and even remembered my husband who had stayed there 3 years ago. We were impressed by that. The food was good. The only bad experience we had was the first time we ate breakfast there we went in and sat down and we were ignored. There was a buffet so after 10 min or so we decided that was the only option. We got our food and the next group of people that came in the waitress went right over to them and poured them juice and told them they could pick the buffet or order something off of the menu. We still hadn't even gotten anything to drink. She finally came over and poured our drinks. They weren't that busy. The food wasn't that tasty and gave a couple of people in our group upset stomachs. Our last morning there we did not have time to go to town for breakfast so we reluctantly went there again for breakfast thinking we would just get some toast and juice to tide us over till lunch. Luckily the waiters from the evening shift were there and we got prompt service and the food was much better so they must have had a different cook too.The menu is very American. Where are the fry jacks?! For breakfast I recommend that you go to town to Pops. It is a short taxi ride into town and to Xunantunich. I would stay here again.

You want the jungle experience, the relaxing yet exciting getaway from the daily grind without totally sacraficing or stressing out in the pure wild, and Windy Hill Resort provides just that. Large one room rustic "style" cabins, with just the necessities to be comfortable and actually relax - clean firm beds, hammock on your porch, clean bathroom and flat screen TV, but no phone to totally distract you. Breathtaking jungle views from your porch or the community infinity pool! Listen to the birds and the wind rustling along the multi-acre property or head down to the quaint palapa bar whose decor is combined with British pubs of a bygone era. Don't forget to dine at the local on premise restaurant. Dress up for a nice evening or casual, for local or continental fare made to order and always tasty and satisfying. Also, perfect point from which to travel on day trips - ruins, cave tubing, local zoo, horseback riding or ziplining... do it all from this base!

My staff and I went there to celebrate Teachers` Day. It started with a workshop and we were allowed to take our own equipment as well as our own snack. We had lunch and breakfast at their restaurant. The food was delicious and the waiters were very courteous and friendly. Later we had karaoke at night and in the morning we were allowed to use the grounds for game and awards. The manager even gave us a prize to the teachers who won the games over all which was a day and night stay at the resort. We were treated like royalty at Windy Hill. It was like home away from home.

Room Tip: If you do not mind climbing the hills then pick ones on top of the hills. The ones on the top of the...

We chose this property to use as our base for our many Mayan ruin tours including overnight to Tikal. We researched and found WIndy Hill to be the best value and as a bonus, we liked it for the high number of positive TA reviews.

We chose to go all inclusive and had made arrangements with WIndy Hill to be picked up at the airport in Belize City with their sister tour company, "Windy Hill Tours" which is located on the property. We were picked up in a Honda CRV promptly and it takes about 2 hours to drive to the resort.

The property is located West of San Ignacio and as we drove through the town we promised ourselves we would return for a closer look. Windy Hill resort is located off the main highway just a mile from town. We noticed many trees, green grass and colorful flowers were all around the property. We were driven directly to our cabin which was located up the hill, away from the highway, right across from the swimming pool. Cabin #16.

We arrived early around noon and headed for the pool. The pool is of small size and one end is "infinity". To our surprise, we were treated to lunch at the pool! We discovered the reason they call themselves, "Windy Hill", as it was very breezy, especially at the pool, resulting in several of the umbrellas being bent and unusable. The umbrellas may have been replaced by now, but be aware that there is limited shade, if any, at the pool.

We chose the meal plan. We found breakfast to have plenty of variety and we had no complaints! Food was fresh and plentiful. Although we stayed at the resort for a week, we often were touring during lunch, and thus only had a few midday meals at the resort. For lunch our favorite was their chicken fingers! Dinner dining was informal and comfortable. No need to bring any fancy clothes. The staff had not issue with my frequent requests to turn the ceiling fans on. The dining area was cool enough but we recommend you put on bug spray. Dinner choices included shrimp, chicken, fish all served one of several ways. Sorry I cannot recall if they served steak. I do not think so. Although the menu is limited, we had no complaints and we would still choose the meal plan in a minute!

Our cabin was very nice and well maintained. Plenty of louvered windows which allow cross ventilation, however we also chose an upgraded (Deluxe) cabin which had AC. There were also two large ceiling fans as well. Lighting could be improved. Light fixtures were in odd places and we found it hard to read in the evening. Our room had Direct TV with plenty of channels and we enjoyed watching our favorite shows from home as well as new international shows. Bed was comfortable. We could have used more pillows. Bathroom was fine once we figured out they now utilized a hot water heater and not the kooky shower head heater I had read about on an earlier TA review, and as was instructed on the back of the bathroom door, and was no longer applicable. You should not have any HW issues! You just need to wait for the water to heat up. We enjoyed spending time on our deck watching nature. Please note there is no coffee maker in the room, we brought our own. Another note, there is no room safe but we felt our stuff was safe in the room. However, for our overnight to Tikal we were able to put some items in the Windy Hill main safe.

We planned all our trips with Elmer and crew from Windy Hill Tours. They were very responsive. We received their list of offered tours via e-mail to review before arrival, and although we booked the overnight stay in Tikal in advance, the rest of the tours we scheduled upon arrival. They were first class and responded to all our requests and needs. We received individual attention and our tours guides were very knowledgeable and personable.

Windy Hill arranged a mid morning tour of Tikal as well as the reservation for us to stay overnight at the Jungle Lodge located inside the Tikal park. We visited Xunantunich (five miles from resort) with a tour guide arranged by WIndy Hill, we taxied on our own to Cahal Pech (a couple miles from the resort), and Windy Hill arranged our final trip to Caracol, a long trip into the jungle. We were only one of two couples visiting Caracol on the day of our trip.

The staff was friendly and responsive. Check in and out was easy. The restaurant staff was excellent! I would recommend this property as a base and their sister company for tours!

We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The Windy Hill Resort is very lovely and very comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in this trip. At night it was so quiet and in the morning we were woken by birds. We loved the restaurant - dinner and breakfast were both very tasty. We had trouble getting hot water in the shower, although at this time of this year it wasn't really necessary.
