Top quality in the border of Belize with Guatemala. Although facilities are not new, they are very well kept and rooms, general facilities, and the park are 1st class. Probably the best around, and worth stopping by. If you are in your way to Guatemala from Belize, worth spending overnight and cross the frontier in the morning. Also a great stop when coming from southern Yucatan in mexico to Tikal in Guatemala, or viceversa. A great base for visiting the many interesting maya sites close by: Caracol (1 hr drive south), Cahal Pech (in San Ignacio city), El Pilar (aprox 1 hour drive north), Kunantunich (15' drive).
My only complain is that the girl working in the office next to reception doesn't have a friendly attitude.

As first time visitors to Belize, my sister and I found the San Ignacio Resort Hotel to be a diamond in the rough. The simple facade of the building facing the street was in stark contrast to the tropical elegance of the inside. The lobby was well decorated with comfortable couches and high tables, all decorated with flowers grown on site at the hotel.

Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by the nicest staff and offered complimentary rum punch or fruit punch. The staff at the hotel far exceeded our expectations, checking on us as we encountered them throughout the day and providing suggestions on activities or answering general questions. Each person seemed to treat us like a personal guest, which was a nice feeling.

We stayed in a Deluxe Balcony Room and were a little shocked to get an actual key (instead of room card)! The room was spacious, well decorated and very clean. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. On the balcony, the hotel provided a hammock for use and we promptly put ours up. This was a pleasant surprise and a nice way to relax after exploring Mayan ruins.

The outdoor pool area looks better than the pictures (if that's even possible) and there is one lighted tennis court. The hotel provided tennis rackets (not in the best shape) and balls for no charge for those interested in playing.

We ate at the hotel restaurant about twice a day for the three nights of our stay. As you can imagine, that gets pretty dull after a while, but the food was still good. Being from Texas, we did not order steaks - which the restaurant is apparently known for, however we did try most of the Belizean cuisine on the menu and only had one meal that was served a little cold. You have the option of sitting inside or outside on the covered patio or outside on the uncovered patio. Its delightful to watch the toucan birds on the nearby trees as you eat. There is also a bar at the hotel called the Stork Club, but it was empty for each night we were there.

The resort is in a good location for most of the popular tours in the area. We wouldn’t recommend renting a car since driving in the area is an adventure in itself (unpaved, bumpy roads, no consistent street signs, drivers doing whatever they want on the road…). We instead chose to use the hotel to book our excursions to Caracol and Xunatunich, not sure how we faired on value, but we did get a top notch tour guide, named Cruz. His knowledge of Mayan history and culture was amazing and added valuable information and enjoyment to our experiences. There is also the option for onsite Medicinal Trail Tour and the Iguana House Project on an hourly basis right at the hotel. Again, the hotel connected us with an excellent guide, Umberto, who was very knowledgeable and funny – “…takealookatthisgurls!” He also was a good sport and got us to at least touch the iguanas, despite our initial strong resistance.

Overall, we found the town of San Ignacio to be very rustic with not many dining options or interesting stores. They are currently building a visitor center and we expect the town to be more interesting once that is finished.

Absolutely loved our stay at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. The staff were delightful and charming. While eating breakfast on the terrace, we were thrilled to have colorful toucan birds land in a nearby tree, then we took a hike down to the river for a canoe ride, then back to the hotel where we swam in the fabulous pool. San Ignacio Hotel had the best beds, pillows and sheets on our 3 week trip! We were able to walk down the hill to town for a fun day. A must stay on your trip to Belize.

The rooms are very nice with a small porch attached. The beds were comfortable and I liked the open shower in the bathroom. The swimming pool was great. The breakfast was good and I enjoyed watching the birds at close ranges every morning as we drank our coffee. Try also to visit the Iguana Farm which is attached to the hotel. Where they raised iguanas and then release them into the wild. You must ask for a hotel guide to visit this area. The staff was friendly and responsive to your needs. Overall a great place to stay.

The rooms were beautiful and the staff was outstanding. We ordered dessert and went for a quick dip in the pool. The waitress was gracious enough to bring it to us poolside. The food was delicous.

My partner and I spent two restful nights at this lovely hotel. The staff was warm, welcoming and responsive. Breakfast on the verandah watching beautiful birds (toucans, aricaris, tanagers and more) at very close range was a delight. The food, coffee and service were first-rate. The pool was perfect after a long, hot road trip. The lounge chairs were very comfy and the pool surroundings lush. Our room was well-appointed (with even an iron and ironing board which I made good use of) with good lighting, a roomy bath and terrific mattresses. We slept great and enjoyed relaxing. We didn't take advantage of the many tours offered; we'll have to do that next time.

The hotel is charming with fantastic decor and very attentive staff. Even though the restaurant and dining area are beautful, we chose to order room service and were not disappointed. The meal was delivered very quickly and everything was perfect.! The steaks are excellent as the resort is partnered with the Running W ranch. There was even hummus and a delicious Mediterranean Salad on the menu along wiht many other choices. The rooms are well done with comfortable beds, quality linens and a great shower. The balcony was a great spot to view the surrounding countryside and relax. We stayed one night and wish we could have been there longer.
