The San Ignacio Resort Hotel is a breath of fresh air. The folks behind the desk, the servers in thee dining room, and the ladies who cleaned our room were all wonderful and friendly. The owners really know what they are doing. Beds very comfortable. At the time of our visit there was some renovation going on, but it did not interfere with our ability to relax. While the pool looked gorgeous and was very inviting, we elected to do our reading in other areas, like the nice terrace overlooking the rain forest canopy. Down below, is a 'Green Iguana' breeding cage to make certain that these animals don't go extinct. It is a fascinating tour.
.
The food and wine is good, not excellent, but the mixed drinks are wonderful. I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

Located atop a hill just outside the town of San Ignacio, this hotel offers an elegant and pristine respite from the dusty and somewhat rough-around-the-edges of San Ignacio town. This is not to denigrate the town which we liked very much because it has yet to fall victim to gentrification that tends to erode the cultural authenticity of so many towns visited by tourists. But, when you want a quiet, dust-free environment in which to relax - by the beautiful pool or on the veranda that overlooks it and the rain forest beyond - the hotel offers that in spades for enjoying a meal or just a drink. We can't say enough about the staff of this place. Friendly and helpful to a fault, from the reception desk staff to Onil, the concierge who spent a lot of time helping us to plan our various activities. He was outstanding in every way.

This is a family owned and operated establishment and it shows. The pride taken in the care and maintenance of the grounds, rooms and public areas is always evident. The food from the hotel's kitchen is very good and not really much more expensive that you would find in the town's better restaurants, plus the atmosphere in which you have your meals is superior to anything you'll find in town.

While the hotel was in the midst of an expansion during our stay, we were surprised at how little we noticed the work being done next door. Every effort was made to shield guests from noise and dust. There are other fine hotels in this inland region of Belize but they are isolated so you really can't walk anywhere from the hotel. We liked being able to walk a few minutes into town to experience the entertainment in the town square, dine at different restaurants and stroll through the weekly open air market. The streets are pot-holed and dusty but the atmosphere is lively and colorful and the locals are extraordinarily friendly. Never did we feel unsafe, even strolling around town late at night.

San Ignacio is a good starting off point for any number of activities and tours including the excellent Mayan sites of Cahal Peche and Xunantunich. The hotel has its own interesting offerings such as their iguana center project located on the hotel grounds as well as a fascinating guided tour through the adjacent rainforest where your guide will fill you in on all the medicinal plants and trees that are abundant there. There's even a full-size casino just next door to the hotel if you need a little more excitement.

Room Tip: Most rooms face the pool and rain forest as far as we could tell, but to be safe, you could specify...

Our family of 4 adults really enjoyed our stay here. The service and accommodation were excellent. The food served at the restaurant was delicious - especially the steak! We would definitely return again should the opportunity arise!

Our family spent 2 lovely nights at the San Ignacio Resort in March 2013. We had a fabulous stay and our only regret was not being able to stay longer. The hotel, pool and grounds were so very clean and comfortable. The staff was so very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed many meals on the balcony overlooking the beautiful pool and surrounding jungle. We enjoyed the ATM tour on our first full day in San Ignacio ... an amazing adventure.
My sons and I enjoyed the morning Bird watching tour with Eddy ... he was so knowledgeable and personable. Our entire family did the Iguana tour ... again with Eddy as our guide. Such an interesting and proactive preservation program.
I recommend staying for several days in the area .... so much to do and see! We look forward to coming back one day soon.

I stayed in late February at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. The rooms were very nice, clean and well appointed. The staff and service were excellent. I only had breakfast in the restaurant but it was fine. It is about a 10 minute walk from the center of town and up a hill but there are always cabs around if you chose not to walk. Short walk from Cahal Peche as well. I would stay here again. Currently there is some construction going on, but the hotel emailed before my arrival to let me know this. Some hotels would not extend that courtesy.

We have been to San Ignacio hotel many times, and can only say that the experience each time is more rewarding. The people, the view, the solitude and beauty is what makes San Ignacio Resort Hotel an awesome place to stay. They were doing a major renovation at the time and were still the beautiful and pleasant place as always to enjoy. We can't wait to see the resort on our next trip!

The hotel is lovely, as are it's employees. During our 3-night stay at the hotel, we were most impressed by the attentive staff, many of whom work very long hours and remain cheerfully helpful. Paulita, owner/manager, was very solicitous when my husband was ill, and was prepared to provide any necessary assistance. Onil, the guest services manager, is very skilled in his role, and went well beyond the norm to coordinate last-minute tours for us. Ted, our driver and Tikal guide, was a warm and kind man who was the perfect introduction to Belizean people and culture. Eddie, who oversees the Iguana Project, is both knowledgeable and delightful, and obviously loves his work. And Aaron, restaurant server extraordinaire, became my hero when he was able to acquire for me the recipe for the hotel's excellent coconut pie! And they all function together like a well-oiled machine. Hats off to the family-owners/operators.
