“Average Standard Hotel”
Reviewed 27 October 2010

My husband and I stayed at this hotel to experience land adventures in Belize. I really wanted to stay at a jungle lodge, but was worried about the temperature being too warm, as none of the jungle lodges have ac. I had hoped to stay at a semi-jungle lodge, which this was not.

While there is a beautiful setting with trees and a trail in the back of the hotel, I learned that we could not go on the trails unguided, which was very disappointing. I'm not really one for 'guided' hikes, and felt that the hotel should be upfront about this info on their web page. If I had to do it again, I would stay at Chaa Creek. We had a driver take us there one day and we really enjoyed our 'unguided' walks on the trails.

The service was nothing special. I did not feel as though the staff were very warm or willing to go out of their way for us. They tried to sell us some tours, but do note that they charge much more than the tour companies do. Tour companies are literally down the street, so to save some money, book directly. We booked with Pacz tours and were Extremely happy with them.

Besides that, rooms are decent, nothing to write home about. They seemed to be clean, but were fairly dark, and not very spacious.

Pool in my opinion was not usable since it was always very crowded.

On a positive note, I really enjoyed the restaurant. Wait staff were friendly and food was very good. We ate out on the terrace and enjoyed the evening breeze.

All in all, this hotel was ok, definitely not deserving of such a high rating.

Not knowing Belize and where all things are located, we opted to transition from a Blancaneaux Lodge in the jungle to the San Ignacio Resort for one night and do Xunantunich Ruins (15-20minutes from resort). Turns out, Xunantunich was about the same distance from this resort as it was from Chaa creek where we had stayed a few nights before, had we known this, we might have changed our trip and not stayed in town at all. However, had we done this, we would have missed out on Eddie and the Iguana Project. Hands down the best experience and worth the nominal entrance fee. There are 4 Green Iguanas who are tame and you can hold (there are many others too they just aren't tame so you can't hold them). Gomez is the dominant male, you can hold him but he isn't that 'lovey'. Rosey on the other hand, loves to be held, fed and petted. It was such a cool experience and Eddie was just an awesome guide for this!

The food at the resort was very good. Two of us had the beef which is raised by the owner's brothers down the street, and they both said it was excellent! We opted to eat lunch when we arrived and dinner and breakfast at the hotel as well rather than walk into town. We only stayed for one night and we didn't see any local places we felt we just had to trek down the hill for.

The hotel needs a bit of pampering on the outside but it is quite nice in the common areas inside. The staff is very nice as well. Mauriano was excellent as our waiter, very charming and funny. They have a psuedo medicine trail but they don't maintain it very well any more. My husband did walk it early in the morning and saw a tucan and some other birds and a rabbit (which Belizean rabbits do not look like your friendly easter bunny rabbit at all!)

The hotel offers internet service, very reliable and decent speed. They say they give you the first 15min free, but as long as no one else is waiting, they don't seem to keep track.

The AC in the rooms worked fine. The shower was open, and you could easily get your stuff wet on the counter if you weren't careful. We did the lowest level rooms, the balcony rooms with the garden view since it was only one night. Nothing special to see as you would expect but they have a hammock hanging in a bag on your balcony if you wanted to set it up and enjoy. The rooms were perfectly comfortable. Satelite tv worked as well.

The owner's are very nice and if they are there (I think they are most times) they try to come around to your table during a meal to see how things are going.

Our organization, ROWKIDS, has used San Ignacio Resort Hotel for several years as lodging for our mission teams. The staff of both the resort and the dining room are just like family...they are very polite, efficient and willing to meet your every need. We have lodged here as many as four weeks at a time with a total of around eight stays. We would recommend this resort to any one looking for lodging in the Cayo district or San Ignacio.

We loved this resort. It was much more than we expected. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. They took care of everything we asked and then more so. Delonie the guest services manager met us when we arrived and gave us a tour and she was great.

Everyone at the front desk knew our names and always asked if we needed anything.

We booked all of our torus through the resort and Ted was our tour guide. He was awesome and we had the best time. He took us into Guatemala and made sure we went through customs correctly and they took us to Tikal. Amazing!

We were celebrating our anniversary and they arranged dinner by the pool. So romantic! We could not have asked for a better place to stay. So worth it!

Our first stay with San Ignacio Hotel in San Ignacio, BZ was for a week with our children and a large mission team from the U.S. the summer of 2009. We were captivated by the warm, friendly and very accomodating staff in every department of the hotel. We found the atmosphere elegant enough to satisfy our picky adult taste, but laid back enough to allow the children to feel special instead of out of place. We dined 2 satisfying and delicious meals a day in the hotel, enjoyed luxury swims in the evening and crashed peacefully at night in our double room. Since that initial visit to San Ignacio Hotel, we have moved to Belize, but every visit to San Ignacio, we remain loyal guests to S. I. Hotel... 4 visits later we are still fans.
