We started off our honeymoon in Western Belize, as we are not the typical "beach-goers". Our time at duPlooy's Jungle Lodge was amazing and it provided us with the perfect experience for first-time travelers to this country. From the lodge, we participated in several activities. On our first day, we rode horses with a guide to the Mayan site of Xunantunich, where we had a detailed tour. This excursion was followed by a delicious lunch in San Ignacio, and another wonderful tour of Cahal Pech, a Mayan site that is currently undergoing several exciting excavation projects. Our guides were very knowledgeable. They answered our questions, and made us feel comfortable at all times. The following day, we visited the Green Hills Butterfly Reserve, and had the chance to learn and see their work. We also went tubing on the Macal River and took an extended walk through the Botanical Gardens connected to the campus of duPlooy's.

Being on a honeymoon, we also wanted time to relax. DuPlooy's was the ideal location for us! The entire staff took great pride in their work and made us feel like part of the family. We were always greeted with a smile, whether at the bar, in the dining hall, or on the boardwalk; and we did not experience any problem during our stay. In fact, Judy duPlooy personally welcomed us to the area and took time to chat with us one morning. Our package was all-inclusive, a perfect way to start out a honeymoon. I can honestly say that the food prepared at duPlooy's was by far the best that we tasted during our vacation (and that includes the second half of our trip on the Eastern coast). We sampled some wonderful soups, breads, and authentic dishes made with local ingredients, such as chayote and plantains. I want to thank duPlooy's for making our experience memorable, and I would highly recommend this location to anyone. We are looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Room Tip: The pristine location of the lodge means that you have to exit some of the major roads in Belize. P...

All the best to both of you for the future.

We initially booked our stay at duPlooy's just as a place to rest our head while we visited Xunantunich and the ATM Cave as the lodge is conveniently located close to both and can book your tours for you. We did not expect to be so impressed by everything about this intimate boutique lodge in a uniquely beautiful setting. We loved everything about duPlooy's! The staff were exceptionally warm, friendly, and helpful. The room was tastefully decorated and quiet with an enclosed porch complete with a hammock for lounging on. The food was excellent! The grounds are beautiful set deep in the jungle above the Macal river on which we took a leisurely ride in an inner tube down to the duPlooy's beach which was full of every color butterfly you can imagine. The Belize botanical gardens are located on the property and are honestly the prettiest we have been to. The highlight of our stay though was feeding the nocturnal Kinkajous bananas from the treetop bar area. These cute wide-eyed little animals are unbelievably friendly and come straight out of the jungle onto the porch! We cannot wait to visit duPlooy's again! The lodge has a quiet homey elegance with plenty to do either on the property or in the immediate area!!!

Our family of 4 just came back from Belize; We spent 6 days ag Duplooys. Everything was perfect and went off without a hitch. The people were extremely nice and helpful. The food was good and the setting was great. Every day we had a scheduled tour (ATM, cave tubing, trip to Tikal, canoeing the Macal river into town, visiting the iguana and butterfly sancutaries). Everything went extremely well, all the transfers, pickups, returns. The guides on the tours are fantastic with great knowledge of the Mayan history, local flora and fauna. The deck in the treetops is great for bird and animal viewing. My only complaint is the bumpy road getting to and from the lodge.

Thanks for visiting duPlooy's and for your positive review. We complain about the road, too - especially when we are purchasing tires and peripheral items that we didn't even know cars had before we came here. If we paved the road, we would have to charge waaayy more for your visit. And, believe it or not, we do have that beastly road graded a couple of times a year. Anyway, what would an adventure be if everything ways easy; so we keep all of the easy parts for when you are here.

Thanks again.

Just back from four days at duPlooy's Jungle Lodge...what an amazing place to stay. Perfect location--right on the Macal River with its own beach, close to Mayan ruins and many other features. Outstanding accommodations, excellent service, and truly great food. The guides are superb; I took one on a hike to Xunantunich, one on a canoeing trip down to the city. The place is first-rate in every way, can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: the Jungle Lodges near the river are great, spacious and close to everything.

We can't say enough wonderful things about our stay at duPlooys Jungle Lodge. The staff were gracious and fun and accommodating. It is beautiful beyond belief and the tours were more than we could have ever imagined. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and professional. We went cave tubing, horseback riding and to Guatemala and felt safe at every moment. The weather operated in our favor the entire time and we were very comfortable in our bed, in the dining room and at the bar. Thank you to the staff at duPlooys for a fabulous introduction to the beauty and excitement of Belize.

What can we say about Duplooys except that it exceeded our expectations in everyway. We stayed in the La Casita for a week from June 19 through June 23, 2013 and it was perfect for a family of four with two teens to spread out and hang about on two decks! From the great morning conversations with Judy Duplooy to the special help from Alberto with my camera (which had lost connection due to high humidity) and finding us official Belizean football (soccer) jerseys, the staff surely is absolutely top-notch: Fermin and Mason at the front desk, Alberto and Jose lead servers, Ishmael and Kevin the wait staff, Emil and Gurima on tours, and Isaiah and Noel as drivers! Mario manages the botanical gardens and he was a terrific and gracious source of information on the gardens and the birds. The food was delightful, particularly the baked breads and biscuits fresh at every meal and a different delicious soup every night. La Casita is perfect for a family and is at the end of an elevated walkway, at a location beyond the rest of the units....we observed many birds (blue-crowned motmots, parrots, Aracari and keel-billed toucans, etc) and animals (armadillo, agoutis, kinkajous, and four-eyed oppossum) up close, as we walked back and forth every day to the dining room, bar, and bird viewing deck. Go to the Saturday Market in San Ignacio if you are staying over on a Saturday. The horses are well cared-for and are fun to ride to Xunantunich. Take the time to: find out where the bats hang out for the day to view these amazing creatures; get up early to enjoy the variety of birds that perch within arms reach at the bird viewing deck; watch for and enjoy the gentle kinkajous and four-eyed opossum that come to the bar deck at night for a snack; ask about the amazing owl that hides out in its "cave" on the limestone cliff overlooking the beach of the Macal River; canoe down the Macal River; hike up the fire tower at the botanical gardens.... smell the heavenly Ponderosa Lemons at the botanical gardens. Thank you Duplooys so much...it really allowed our busy lives to slow down and enjoy our family time and really connect with the people and wildlife of Belize!

Thanks so much for your comments. We are so fortunate to be here and get to meet our wonderful guests who have to be special because it's not a place for everyone. You mentioned almost the entire staff by name. They appreciate being remembered as individuals and not just as "the staff"

Again, thanks.

We stayed at Duplooys Jungle Lodge in mid June for 5 nights before going to a Caye for a week. Everyday at the Lodge was a wonderful adventure! We chose to do cave tubing, canoeing, horseback riding and gardens. During our "down time" we swam in the river or tubed to our beach from upstream, super fun! It's difficult to decide what we liked best about our time there in the jungle! The staff were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, genuine, and would go out of their way to ensure that you were satisfied! It was so nice to talk to each one of them about their families, villages, and life in Belize!! Our children, ages 11 and 7, remarked the food was the best they have ever had! It is a delicious reflection of Belize culture- lots of fresh fruit and veggies, chicken, fish, and they always had a vegetarian option. They also accommodated my gluten allergy with NO problem! Happy hour each night was a super fun time where you could have the bartender create a run drink for you and watch the playful & gentle Kinkajous visit. My daughters had a blast feeding these furry little guys bananas. Around 530 every night, one would come scampering along the railing ready for a treat! The horses we rode were well cared for and were quite tame and laid back. We rode to Xunantunich and on another day rode through the grounds to a beautiful lookout. It was a joy to meet other guests at the bar/lounge and discuss the day's adventures. We stayed in the Casita, which had a large room upstairs and downstairs- plenty of room for 4 persons and it had lots of fans which was great b/c it was quite warm in June. The rooms and bathrooms were very very clean too. I could write all day about our stay at Duplooys as it was so memorable!
Finally- You must walk through the gardens- this is a labor of love and a gem of the country as you can learn about and see native trees and other botany using the handy guidebooks!

Room Tip: Casita is great for family b/c of size, 2 bathrooms, and it's on the corner of the property so i...

Thanks so much for your great review. We think that our people are incredible too. They are hardworking and really care whether you enjoy your stay or not. They are also willing to share their experiences and their lives with our guests. Add that to a beautiful riverside location, jungle setting and who could ask for more!?
