I spent 4 nights at Midas in a group of 5 adults. We used Family Cabana #5 and 6. All of us were quite happy with the Cabana, Pool, and Breakfast area.

The grounds were quite nicely kept, I didn't find the dogs to be of any bother, in fact it was nice to know they were out there at night.

The pool area wasn't completely tiled but was still a nice place to unwind with a dip and a drink after a hot day. You can pay for your drinks upfront or charge them i believe.

The breakfast area was a bit small but the staff was friendly helpful, and the food was great. We charged this to our room each day and settled up when we left.

The cabana was nice. It was divided into two rooms with both sides having there own bathroom with shower. One half had a 2 beds a double and single, the other half had 3 singles. There was a connecting door between. Both had AC and fan.

Details. One of the showers in our cabana leaked the entire time we were there. Also although the A/C unit worked I don't think it actually cooled. Only one of the rooms had a set of drawers.

Despite the above mentioned we still enjoyed our time at Midas and would recommend it to others. Yes there are some small things in progress or in need of minor repair, but this was still a great budget place to stay. Can't beat the pool at the end of the day and the available wifi by the pool, breakfast nook and cabanas was nice.

Room Tip: Cabanas were our choice but look at a couple rooms to decide. In the cabana it took a minute for the...

We stayed here primarily because of the mid-range price point and location—it is close to downtown restaurants without being in the midst of all the noise there. We also were seeking a certain level of comfort you don’t find at the US$40/night places in town and we liked the description that it would be “a rainforest setting.” The hotel needs to make some improvements, however, as outlined below. It may still be worth your considering the Midas, in spite of the need for improvement, because there are few alternatives at this price point/quality level and proximity to restaurants in this area of Belize. Thus, I will outline some of the problems and you can decide whether they are important concerns for you.

The minimum standards most travelers require, even in Belize—such as safety, clean rooms, hot water, reasonable beds, and either air conditioning or ceiling fans/screens on the windows—are not “givens” in the interior sections of Belize. Midas Resorts meets these standards, except for the beds, and goes beyond them in areas such as providing safe parking, Wi-Fi, televisions, a restaurant for breakfast, a swimming pool, and a very nice bar.

Improvements needed: One major guidebook mentions that the Midas Resort is “continually improving” but that does not mean one should leave junk or construction debris near the pool and around the grounds. They have a whole seven acres to put that stuff out of sight! Having junk around the property certainly did not make it feel like a “rainforest setting.”

Another rough spot: the beds were extremely firm, felt cheap, and light sleepers will feel the coils under the thin mattress stuffing.

The swimming pool is absolutely gorgeous under the lovely night-time lighting, but it is clearly a constant challenge to keep the sand from getting tracked into the pool area, where some of it ends up on the bottom, as noted by other reviewers. Some design change is needed there, such as a foot washing basin or shower, along with better walkways, but the fact that there was a large pool was appreciated by several families while we were there. Any sand in the pool still left it cleaner than swimming at Rio on Pools.

If we did stay at Midas again, we would not reserve in advance so that we could check the beds in the specific room we were shown. We would also bring the following items, instead of having to acquire them after we arrived (unless the owners read this review and decide to address these issues.)
• A better pillow—rather than the 2-inch-thick variety provided by the resort.
• Wash cloth and hand towel (We are used to bringing our own when travelling to Britain, but Latin American hotels, even in Belize, have usually provided these.)
• Cup or glass for any beverages you want to consume in your room or just to use by the bathroom sink when brushing your teeth.
• Your own bottled water if you want it (not really necessary in Belize but provided in “next level up” places)

This review would be unfair if I failed to mention that the staff are trying really hard to be good stewards and accommodating to guests. We had one concern that they addressed immediately and they even checked the next day to ensure everything was o.k. Decisions about investments in such things as wash cloths, glasses/cups, better beds or better pillows rests with the owners, and they are currently investing in renovations such as new tile bathrooms and other amenities throughout the property. I just wondered if they could charge $1 extra per night and give us better pillows.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms in the new building or one of the cabins/cabanas that have been renovated.

We have stayed in a nice cabana with clean room, two double beds, AC/fan, reasonabel bathroom, nice veranda, TV and WiFI.
The staff was fantastic and the breakfast as expected good. The resoirt has a nice swimmingpool, a nightwatch and three friendly dogs.

Room Tip: A very good place to be from where you could make daytours.

I've stayed here twice. Last time they were in the process of building their new bar, pool, and privacy wall. Last time I stayed in cabana #7 which was AWESOME! This time we stayed in cabana #11. I was a bit disappointed. Both cabanas were in the same price range, but the quality was much different. In either case they were fine places to stay, but I recommend making sure you see a photo of the inside of the cabana you are reserving (that's what I'll do next time). The service is really good and they offer laundry service for a fee. They also have a simple breakfast you can purchase. They have free wi-fi. You won't be able to get it in all rooms, cabanas, and cottages but they have a nice area that you can get the signal. The location is ideal in my opinion. Close enough to town for easy access, but far enough away that the town noises won't bother you. One thing I did notice is that the new karaoke bar near Hodes can be quite loud. Room Tip: Make sure you know what your room will look like. All cabanas are not the same quality.

If the hotel was in the USA it would be rated a 3* at the most but for San Ignacio area it is one of the better places to stay within walking distance to town & room prices were reasonable. PROS: Rooms were spacious and clean, rooms cleaned everyday & they gave you fresh dry towels, breakfast cooked on site & was good & cheap, you could book tours there with PACZ tours-good company, security guard on site at night, jungle surroundings, they sprayed for mosquitos.
CONS-Rooms were not insulated well and you could hear people in adjoining rooms, restaurant only served breakfast. When we were they it rained every day so the grounds were very wet & muddy. The humidity was so high our dry clothes even felt damp in our bags & because all the trees it didnt get much sunlight except over the pool area, so it seemed a bit dreary.
There are 3 big dogs on site-German Shepards & Boxer Mix. They slept on our porch most of the time. The dogs are very sweet and NO they do not have fleas (like one reviewer commented). They are watch dogs and they do bark at night if something is going on.

Room Tip: Maybe try stay in the main building

Please dont get me wrong but it was just an average hotel. The staff were friendly enough but the hotel definitely is a bit tired/scruffy looking around the grounds and entrance.
The room was decked out nicely (could have done with some drawers) and the shower was tiled nicely. However the shower was hard to get to the right temperature. There are two keys for security to get into the main complex which you would think is great but you cannot lock your windows and there is a fire escape that anyone off the street can walk up at the other end of the building?!?
The bar looked nice, but the pool however was dirty / murky. The little touches seem to be missing in this hotel, like tidying away equipment, paint tins, broken chairs etc.
This hotel is very expensive for what you get. Perhaps when other people have raved about this hotel it was cheaper? It was just an average stay with a top range price.

I remember church camp being more comfortable! Frommer's definitely steered me wrong on this one. We had been warned by a traveler in Caye Caulker. She had just had a bad experience there, but we were still looking forward to it. When we first arrived, we were offered an "upgrade" to the main building but thought the cabanas seemed more inviting. That was mistake #1. The beds were amazingly uncomfortable, and there are flea-ridden dogs all over the yards. When I asked to move to another room the next day, I was told I had been given that option and had not taken it when I had the chance. While Bielizeans elsewhere were very nice and accommodating, that was not the case here. I also recommend signing for each charge, as we were overcharged by the pool server the first day. When I noticed this at checkout, I was told that employee wasn't at work yet, so nothing could be done. Speaking of the pool,it was supposedly new but looked very dirty. Lessons learned by a very experienced traveler!
