This is my second time at Midas Resort, San Ignacio. The setting is beautiful. The accommodations in the family cottages are perfect. Great pool and wonderful staff. The resort is easy access to downtown and the market. Close to the river for added relaxation.

Room Tip: I have only stayed in the cottages. They are well equipped for sleeping arrangements, however, tak...

My husband and I stayed at Midas for a few nights. We were shown to the cabana we had booked (number 12 I think, light purple) and thought it looked nice. We had booked thru Expedia since their website showed full. I had selected a king size bed, but we ended up with 2 doubles - no problem. The hammock outside the door was fantastic! We discovered there were lots of ants on the walls, but please note, there were none on the beds! It seemed fine. We did however, meet another couple staying there while we were in town that night and they were staying in a Deluxe room. We decided to spring for the update (about $30us more per night after taxes). We had an end room (21 possibly?). It was great! Dont be alarmed if you hear a loud thump early in the morning, it is just an animal jumping on the metal roof! The Deluxe room was beautiful and HUGE. Highly recommend going this route. Yes, as some of the reviews mention, the walls a thin, but it really didn't bother us. We didn't spend a ton of time in the room and when we did we just had the tv on at a low volume and paid no attention to our neighbors. Everyone who works here is very friendly! The breakfast at the restaurant is delicious and more than you can eat! Benjamin (he was at the front desk one night, and a bartender another) was fantastic! His family owns Back to my Roots in town.

Room Tip: Spring for the Deluxe! (Request an end room if you can, but be aware there is no shade to cover the...

We arrived in San Ignacio in april 2014.
Like in all of Belize you shouldnt expect the luxery and high standard hotels a lot of countries do have. So I will just rate the basics.

Pro:
Midas is located 10 minutes walk from downtown.
We got a free update to a nicer room.
When we had a complain we got a new room immediatly.
Staff is friendly.

Con:
They should rent bikes.
They should have maps of san ignacio.
The main building looks awfull.
No waterpressure.

We were pleasantly surprised by the small restaurant but very delicious food! The staff were more than accommodating at all times. The air condition took a while to crank up and cool the room but it did. There was always a lot of activity in the pool (maybe from locals) which looked like fun but we were too busy out exploring to enjoy ourselves.

Room Tip: The internet was awesome! We were on the 2nd floor over the pool area.

Our family of 3 (one teenager) stayed in a double cabana in April over the Easter holiday.... #11 with a hammock on the deck... The price was certainly right at about $70 per night and we made use of the pool everyday as it gets seriously hot inland... We didn't have very high expectations before we arrived so we were happy with what we found, the wifi didn't really work in the cabana but was good around the pool... There was satellite tv in the room and an air conditioner and fans that kept the place cool enough to be comfortable. The bathroom was tiny but again, it was a great to have our own. The downfall was it was full of ants and bugs. Impossible to deal with you just learn to accept one another. It is in a jungle setting and there are goats, birds and lizards everywhere that tend to make a lot of noise, it didn't bother us... But drove our son bonkers when he was trying to sleep.

The pool area was nice, padded loungers, wifi, washrooms and the pool was clean... Bar doesn't serve drinks until after 4 and there was a lot of local people who came in and used the pool during the day as well which made it a bit crowded at times... And slightly frustrating when you can't get a lounger...But again, keep your expectations in check at these prices!

When we did eat on site it was VERY expensive and not very good. Drinks were upwards of $10! We had a breakfast and applies that were just ok and both times took well over an hour to receive. We went just down the road to an orange building called Hodes for our meals (3 dinners) and it was fantastic and much more reasonably priced... The 3 of us were able to eat, drink and get ice cream desserts for around $40 each night and the short walk back to the hotel was safe.

It is a short 5 minute walk from the daily market were we picked up bottled water and fruits to snack on... It is about a 10 minute walk to Burns street where there are some tasty local restaurants and the tour shops should you prefer to book directly with them. The ATM is located at the end of Burns street and worked well for us when we were there.

The saving grace of this place as far as we were concerned was the fantastic service. Everyone from the receptionist to the maids and bartenders as well as the ladies in the kitchen were friendly and over the top helpful. They hooked us up with tours to Tikal and grabbed us any incidental we needed be it more toilet paper or ice, never a trouble. They were gracious and kind which is what will bring me back to the Midas the next time we are in San Ignacio.

After researching many hotels in San Ignacio, we booked Midas Resort based on pictures but was skeptical due to some of the trip advisor reviews. Don't believe everything you read! The Midas resort has all the amenities you need to stay cool and have a great time. The pool is very relaxing, during the weekend, many of the locals came here with their families to swim Which added character. Belizean people are the most friendliest people I have ever met. The pool has a great night life as well as there is a bar attached. The staff is friendly and is always willing to go the extra mile for you. Tómas at the bar makes a great drink and advises on sightseeing either booking a tour or doing it on your own, great insight. Benjamin always has a smile when offering world class customer service. And the front desk staff can assist you with everything else. While here we experienced one of their deluxe rooms but mostly stayed in the cabana which came with relaxing hammock, to enjoy the birds and the sounds of nature. It is only a short five minute walk into town. We originally booked through www.airbnb.com and Michael the owner assisted us, he was very accommodating to our erratic schedule. We have traveled all around the world and stayed at the best and the worst, if you're looking for the one of the best that San Ignacio offers... You would be crazy not to book this one!

Ok, so the Black Scorpion lounging on the cool tiles of the bathroom floor in the wee hours of the morning was really no big deal, although peace of mind probably came with a substantial addition to my karmic debt. The deluxe rooms are spacious, air-conditioned and come with a floor fan, a ceiling fan and a small refrigerator. The king-size bed had a comfortably firm mattress. The bathroom/showers are well-designed and ample. The water pressure is adequate to the task. Complaints about water pressure on a vacation seem very like first world problems to me. The porch, furnished with two arm chairs and a hammock, faces a garden walkway. The view across the Macal River takes in St. Elena and the surrounding hillside and valley. The dining area is a covered patio; breakfast is served from seven to ten and dinner is available from six to nine. There is no lunch service. The food would best be characterized as home-cooking, tasty and plentiful. The pool is large and well-maintained with plenty of tables and chairs on the pool deck. There is a bar adjacent to the pool area. For those needing a wifi fix, the better reception is near the lobby and dining area. Birds, bugs, lizards, iguanas and doubtless many more creatures inhabit the area. There is a charming little kitty who makes its rounds on the pool deck. For those who regard charming little kitties as tiresome cats, ignoring this one seems to encourage it to move on. I can't name them all but Andrea, Benjamin, Gladys, and Lisann are representative of the staff. Friendly, accommodating, nice, solicitous, knowledgeable...over the years, we've met some really terrific folks on our travels. These Belizeans take it to a different level. We would visit Midas Resort again based solely on the members of their staff.
