Cahal Pech Village Resort
Ranked #8 of 14 Hotels in San Ignacio

We stayed here for two nights. Came there from a jungle lodge... The jungle lodge was like The Ritz compared to this hotel! The rooms were not clean, we had more bugs in our room than we encountered in the jungle, no washcloths, the pool was also dirty( we swam in a river that was cleaner and much more clear), bad meals and rude staff will keep us from going back there again. The two things that help this hotel is the location and the view.

This resort is located in the Heart of San Ignacio and withing realistic commutes to many "Ruins" and attractions. The Resort is clean and friendly and I would rate it as a 4* because of its location friendly staff and price for what you get. I will point out some of the "Pros + Cons" so you can judge for yourself.

Pros: 1.The resort itself is a 5 minute walk to the Cahal Pech Ruins which is an easy start to your adventures. It is also within close proximity to other sites, caves etc that are must sees in Belize..

2. The pool area is a welcome site after a day of exploring and the drinks at the pool bar are good. Oscar the bartender can make anything you want.

3. Rooms are a little dated and the A/C is hit and miss. We stayed in a Cabana and it was warm as the A/C struggled with high thatched ceilings. Some "Crazy ants" and moths if you leave lights on in the evening.

4. Beautiful views of the valley mountains and city from rooms and pool area

5. Food, although we did not eat dinner there we had lunch a few times and everything was good.

Cons: 1. Like i said before the A/C is hit and miss but they did supply us with a fan that helped the A/C catch up some.

2. The road into the resort is horrible....the resort is on a cliff and the hilly road into it is rough, not unlike most other roads in Belize.

Room Tip: Al lrooms have good views oi I would ask to check the A/C before deciding on room/Cabana

After driving down from Belize City is was great to get to our lodging and see such a great view. And, even though we got there in late afternoon, we had time to walk the five minutes to see the ruins at Cahal Pech. The staff was great and never tired of our many questions on sites, directions, etc. The restaurant was good and the selections were varied and local, as well as being cheap by American Standards. Pools were very nice (the deck is very slippery). The room was very spacious (we stayed in what they called a small suite).

Room Tip: Suites are very roomy, even the small suite had beds for six.

If you are looking for a very nice place to stay in San Ignacio, Belize, then I strongly encourage you to consider the Cahal Pech Resort. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the view is beautiful, the grounds are lovely, and the food is outstanding. In particular, great fish curry.

Also, the ancient Mayan ruins next door (literally an easy 100-200 meter walk) are extraordinary.

The main reason my husband and I traveled to San Ignacio was to explore the Mayan ruins on the ATM tour. We booked our room and the ATM tour through this hotel more than six weeks ago. Sadly, the hotel claimed that the tour was cancelled both Monday the day we were scheduled to go and the following day due to high water in the cave. After contacting another tour company, I discovered that, in fact, the cave was open and tours were being conducted. Sadly, it was too late to schedule a tour with another company. Additionally, the folks at the hotel told us their guide was not going to lead a tour. We learned from another hotel employee that the guide did lead a group that day. Instead of lying to us, the hotel needed to tell us the truth. Possibly that they overbooked the trip then we could have found another guide.

We were very disappointed with our visit here because we were really looking forward to the ATM tour. It was a highlight of our trip to Belize.

The hotel is located on top of a hill and has a beautiful panoramic view. The pool was refreshing. Our cabana had seen better days. The furniture was old and in disrepair. A fresh coat of paint would help the room seem cleaner. The best part of the cabana was the screened porch and a comfy king sized bed. The air conditioner barely cooled the room. There was a musty smell throughout. Shampoo and bar soap were NOT provided. We paid almost $120 a night without breakfast. I do not recommend this hotel or tour service.

Based on the great reviews here, we chose to stay at Cahal Pech, but we were disappointed. The hotel is merely average. The biggest discomfort was that we had a room with a double bed that resting on a twin size frame! This was understandably uncomfortable, but the staff said there was nothing they could do about this.
They were also cheap and clearly cut corners in terms of cleanliness. For example, our towels were very old and ragged. In sum, I wouldn't return, nor would I recommend it to a friend.

I usually try to give positive reviews with constructive criticism when needed, but our second stay at Cahal Pech Village Resort was truly a let-down. Although the location is absolutely stunning and the view is unlike many other resorts in Belize, Cahal Pech Resort yearns for a make over! The rooms are not cleaned to the standards of other places we've visited in Belize. The furnishing are old and worn, and not a bit comfortable. With the continued lack of upkeep, this potentially beautiful resort will soon become a "slum" resort. Like many other condos/resorts, the owners of this hotel need to commit to closing for about a month for major repairs and fumigation. The road to the resort also needs major fixing! I love the bar area and the staff is very kind and willing to help, and I am sure that they receive many complaints and lose tips due to the current state of this resort. I hate to see a property as amazing as this one...become a Belize ruin!

Room Tip: If you stay and feel the same way as I feel, please let the management know. Maybe if more travelers...
