Description: We're certainly far from perfect, but we do try our best to create a winning experience for every single customer, whether they are hotel guests, Belizean neighbors or travelers staying at other hotels. Try pairing small plates with wines, choose from our creative main courses, or just enjoy some comfort food for breakfast or lunch. It's fun for us to meet new people and, well, just make them happy! Our casual beach bistro focuses on unique sauces and contemporary, tropical-themed flavor combinations while maintaining comfortable portions. Lots of fish and seafood. Bar service includes a 130-bottle wine list, local beer, rum drinks, and house specials. The outdoor atmosphere is casual so you can be comfortable in flip flops. Belize's "Restaurant of the Year" award was presented twice to the Bistro in June 2011 and May 2013.

“Food For Thought”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2009

We stayed at Maya Beach Hotel for a week and had most of our meals at the Bistro.Breakfast was a treat, from the standard Belize breakfast with Fry Jacks to pancakes with bacon, fresh fruit and great coffee. I was afraid to try the chocolate, strawberry french toast in case I got addicted to them.
Being a picky eater was no problem here because the menu is flexible to your wants and needs. Tried the fish and chips for lunch . Definitely the largest pieces of fish I had ever been served. Was difficult to eat it all.
Dinner is a real challenge. Every single item on the menu sounds tempting. You think you have decided what to have, then read the next thing on the menu and it sounds delicious. The nut-crusted fish with watermelon curry sauce was to die for. If you like pork, order the cocoa pork. It looks like a small prime rib roast (was huge). Gourmet style food in large portions is what you receive here. Anything you order from the menu will not dissapoint you.
Be adventuresome and try as much as you can.
Service matches the food in quality people. The staff here are of premium standard. Always smiling and willing to help with suggestions if you want to tweek something on the menu. Loved all the staff. A big thank-you to them all and to John and Ellen for a memorable dining experience. Keep up the great work.

“Beach Perfect Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2009

The Maya Beach Bistro combines wonderful food, gracious people, and a beautiful setting-a truly rare combination. We stayed at the Maya Beach Hotel for a week (the positive TripAdvisor Reviews are spot-on). Although we ate elsewhere, we kept returning to the Bistro for a consistently excellent dining experience.

Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food is fresh, well-prepared, beautifully presented, and above all, really tasty. Owners John and Ellen are passionate about food and service. The fish is consistently fresh and perfectly cooked. Some of the dishes on the menu are elegantly simple--fresh fish, coconut rice and beans, or the slow-cooked country pork rib in an asian-spiced sauce, served with a hominy croquette. Others are more complex, such as the the Thai-influenced sassy shrimp, or the cocoa pork, served over an incredible chipotle-seasoned risotto. Some of the dishes are even whimsical, such as the "Pork, Pork, Pork" from the bar menu, or the Temple of Chicken.

The service at the bistro is gracious and attentive. Oscar and Jerry do a fine job behind the bar, and Odette, Becky, Cedric, Daniel, and the rest of the staff all pitch in to make diners feel welcome and comfortable.

If you're staying at the hotel or in Maya Beach, you're in luck. If you are elsewhere, it's worth the taxi or bus ride up the road for any of the meals. This is beach perfect dining.

“The Little Hotel Bistro with BIG Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2009

Every Belize hotel offers sun and gentle breezes, it is the rare one that combines the regular expectations with extraordinary ambiance and wildly creative food....Maya Beach Hotel Bistro does that in spades. John and Ellen made my experience seamless which is another way of saying uber-relaxing and enjoyable. Oh, the food!!
I can't wait to get back to see this winter's additions of pool and extended bistro, matter of fact, I think I'll book right now just remembering how wonderful my stay was.

“The best dining experience you may ever have.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2008

My many, many dining experiences at the Bistro at Maya Beach Hotel during my stay in Belize were among the best I have had anywhere. Everything from the bar menu to appetizers to the dinner menu was exceptional, not to mention reasonably priced. My wife and I ventured to other restaurants around Placencia, only to return to the Bistro--nowhere else compared. I highly recommend ANYTHING on the menu (though the nut-encrusted fish fillet and boathouse pie were probably our favorites). And don't forget to ask about the happy hours appetizer specials.

“New Friends & Old Friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2008

We were down in Placencia visiting old friends until they said we have to meet Ellen & John at the Maya Beach Hotel Bistro at the re-opening of their restaurant dining room after their renovations.

The new addition of the dining room and bar is fabulous ... large and airy while intimate at the same time.

To start the evening, we were seated at the bar and sampled the stuffed musrooms & coconut ribs ... the view of the caribbean while sipping on One Barrel Rum & pineapple cocktails at sunset are memorable.

With our friends we sat down in the new dining room and sampled the appetizer menu for our meal; bacon wrapped shrimp, coconut shrimp (we like shrimp) and managed to have a bite try of the Truffle Burger and Fish Stack ... all excellent fare ...

A great place, imaginative appetizers and meals, great wine and you can't go wrong with the value, food and company ...
