Maya Lodge
Reviewed 29 October 2011

stayed at the maya lodge in august 2011 for the second time, and once again it proved to be an exellent value. we weren't sure where we were going to stay this time when we drove into placencia, but after quick call to stefano (one of the most honest, hard working guys around) we were in. he met us at the house in 3 minutes flat, and got us all set up, luckily it wasn't booked. the maya lodge is perfect for three guys. it's a beautiful place on a canal built with belizean hardwoods and locally crafted furnishings. the fully stocked kitchen was the perfect place to cook a big breakfast every morning to get us started for the day, and performed just as well after hours when the blender, fresh fruit, and caribbean rum hit the bar.

Maya Lodge was a wide open conept with a loft and plenty of room for everything. Large kitchen 2 fully equiped bathrooms, 3 balconies and large seeting area. You could almost have a bowling alley in the middle of it, it was so big and spacious! This place is very close to the village and is pretty quiet except for the occasional barking dog. It's on the lagoon side which is not recommended for swimming so you'd have to walk to the beach which isn't very far either. Stafano was great at letting us know where to go and what to do and he hooked us up with a real estate agent so we could view properties in the area and Nicolette was great making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Very spacious, very close to town...we were 8 people and stayed comfortably....Placencia is very very expensive and overprice so we found this was the best place to stay!!! when we want for our snorkelling trip the boat picked us up in front of the house! that was very cool! the manager is a lovely person...highly recommended!

I stayed at Maya Lodge for a week with my husband and 20-year-old daughter. We have been to Placencia a couple of times over the years and love it. We managed to visit Belize at the hottest time of the year this time, and it was hot. But, we loved the spaciousness of the house and its location, and it was nice to be able to cool off in the canal right in front of the house. It is in a great location - walking distance to the beach, restaurants and grocery stores. Stefano is super nice and gave us great dining recommendations. I've been home for a week and I'm already homesick for Belize and planning our next trip!

We had such a great time at the Maya Lodge! I’m an American living in Europe and stayed at the Maya Lodge with 5 other adults (2 Americans and 3 Europeans) for two weeks. My friends and I could not believe the spacious rooms and the VERY affordable price (It's difficult to find such great deals in Europe!) The lodge has everything you could need, and Stefano (the manager) was very helpful and checked-in with us everyday to make sure we had all the essentials. He was also a great source of information. There are several restaurants to choose from and places for delicious desserts such as smoothies and gelato. The views from the balcony were astounding and there were excellent places to snorkel. I’m hoping to stay there again soon.

We stayed a week with our adult children (6 people). We found Maya Lodge to be comfortable although sparsely furnished and equipped. There was no blender (in a place where fruit smoothies and tropical drinks are popular), no wine glasses, not even 6 matching glasses of any kind. The pillows are hard and lumpy and the plastic mattress covers need to go. The water pressure is very low, the shower stream is weak and small. We also had to buy toilet paper and paper towels as very little is supplied.l
There is a nearby nightclub that plays deafening music on the weekends til 3:15 am making sleep impossible. Apparently complaints had been filed but we had two nights with no sleep. This would have to be resolved before I would stay there again.
However, the rest of the time it was peaceful with nice views and a good location. Check "yes" on recommend this place overall......
