Enjoyed our recent trip to Turtle Inn - you can do as much, or as little, as you want. Very nice Bali-style huts - very large with screened veranda and outside shower. Dive shop across street provides snorkeling and dive excursions to beautiful barrier reef with best and most alive coral I have seen in the Caribbean. Only drawback was after heavy rains, a lot of plastic in the water. Wonderful friendly staff with good food at restaurant and good wines. Placencia is a laid back village with easy bike access (free bike use) from inn.

Nice rooms very large and have an interesting Thai design to them. The food was very good and so was the staff. I found the beach a little bit of a letdown it has a lot of sea grass and isn't very long. The spa was very nice and features Thai massage I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Try to avoid being near the main lodge and especially the main pool we were right in front of the ma...

We stayed here in a 2 bedroom villa with friends from home. We were greeted upon arrival at the airport and felt pampered the entire time we were at the resort. The outdoor decor is very nicely done and makes you feel very comfortable. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The resort has a dive shop across the road and has bicycles for use to explore the southern part of the peninsula and village. The outdoor showers are fantastic! The resort is eco-friendly and they make their shampoos and soaps. The weather was very hot and still so one night we were hot. It would be nice to have a small A/C in the bedrooms, but otherwise our stay was very nice and we would visit the resort again!

Room Tip: A beach front room would be slightly better just to ensure an ocean breeze.

We stayed at the Turtle Inn in May 2013 for 5 days after a wonderful stay at the Blancaneaux.
Our family, 2 adults and 2 adult children stayed in the Seafront Villa which is only about 15 feet from the water. Turtle has a real nice beach all along the property and the entire site is maintained in excellent condition. The Seafront Villa had 2 large bedrooms in the back, each with a private bathroom and indoor shower/tub. There is an private walled in courtyard in the back with it's own outdoor shower. The entire villa is quite large and has a fridge, sink and coffee maker in the front center area along with a sofa and chairs, 4 person table and room enough for other activities. The entire front facing the shore is screened in. We had initially asked for mosquito nets but really didn't need them as the only bugs were really sand flies and bit your ankles when you were outside. We did bring too much bug spray. Breakfasts are excellent and some of the freshest fruit you will ever get. We had the Pizza one evening and it was also good.
They have a sea side bar and will hack up a coconut and make you an exotic drink in it. There are also two very nice swimming pools and when we were there there were not any crowds at all and we mostly had the pools to ourselves when we wanted to use them. There are also cayaks and other things to do. There is no A/C but with the strong breezes they were not missed. You can walk to Placencia from the Turtle but it is a long walk and can be pretty hot during it. You can however use the shuttle service and it works well. Turtle will take you into town and with a phone call, come get you. The staff was excellent and got to know you quickly.

Room Tip: some of the rooms are right on the water, others are very close.

Stayed here during our honeymoon in July 2012. Great facilities located right on the beach. Nice pools. Great food. It's an Eco resort so no air conditioning, which is the only complaint since I get heat rash when exposed to high temps for long periods of time (I live high in the mountains, so I'm not used to extended high temps). Staff is fantastic and the spa was our favorite of the three spots we stayed in Belize. Highly recommended if you can go without AC, and the fact that it's an Eco resort that helps sustain the planet is great.

My girlfriend and I ate at the Guaguin Grill, and it was first class all the way ...

The beach was romantic, the service amazing, the food was unbelievable (I had lobster, she had snapper) and grilled right behind you ...

This is a "can't miss" place in Placencia ... so don't miss it!

This is a very good resort. But... it is not cheap and so could probably be better. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but with occasional inconsistencies - one waitress kept on forgetting small things. The menus in the Mare is good, but a bit repetitive. Maybe this is because most people only stay for a few days and so it doesn't matter, but we were there for over a week and it so became a bit noticeable. We therefore ate a lot of meals down in Placencia, to get some variety.

Very easy to get into the town, either on the hotel's bikes or on the free shuttle bus which goes frequently in the evening and comes to pick you up when asked.

We had a sea front villa which was fantastic - although be warned - it is very close to the sea and so can be quite noisy in a storm, if that sort of thing worries you.

Also enjoyed the diving and fishing.

Overall a very good experience, with just a couple of niggles.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Luxury and unspoiled beauty on a pristine white-sand beach.Turtle Inn is a true labor of love. Less than a year after Francis and Eleanor Coppola acquired this beachside refuge in 2001, it was swept out to sea by the forces of Hurricane Iris. Turning disaster into triumph, the Coppolas led a two-year reclamation project, creating a magnificent resort that is consistently ranked among the best in Central and South America. This 25-room seafront hideaway combines natural wonders with luxury style. Accommodations are in individual thatched cottages, decorated with handcrafted Balinese furnishings and naturally cooled by the ever-present sea breezes. Just steps beyond your private deck, the white-sand beach dissolves into the clear Caribbean ocean. In addition, the resort has two infinity swimming pools for enjoying the day. ... more   less
