“Second Chance at Romantic Trip”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

Our recent experience at Robert's Grove was all we had hoped and more. Perhaps the most appreciated surprise was the warm, caring, supportive, helpful and all around nice staff at Robert's Grove.

Advise to travelers who go to Robert’s Grove: Call and speak with them personally. Use email, and the instant chat on their website. The staff are very helpful and easily answer questions, or get back very soon with information requested. We found our trip was greatly enhanced by staying in touch with staff before, during and after our visit. The rewards of good communication can be enjoyed by those willing to call.

Our Belize Romance package was great. The room was immaculate up on arrival, and housekeeping staff had prepared a beautiful array of artistic towel swan and heart sculptures and flowers on the bed. Very romantic and truly enjoyed.

Front desk staff, especially Julio (because he seemed always to be there) were most helpful. The driver, Robert picked us up at the airport and knew our names upon arrival. He managed our luggage for us with a warm welcome. On the drive from the airport he gave us a very enjoyable tour of the property from the dive shop to the resort.

Restaurant staff were always helpful, and warm. Very pleasant and we thank them all. The barbecue night was fun and elegant. The restaurant is always clean and beautifully decorated with flowers and artistic table settings. In the evening, the restaurant is transformed form a beautiful open beach view casual dining experience into elegance with table cloths and custom chair covers.

Johnny, the bartender, was very helpful guiding us with drink ideas, and even put together a drink we had enjoyed eight years before at a different resort in Belize; just because we asked. It was great.

As part of our Belize Romance package, we enjoyed very professional massages together. The experience was relaxing and for me, entirely new.

Tours arranged by Robert’s Grove included ancient Mayan ruins with Rafael as our driver and guide. Lunch at his family’s restaurant was delightful and delicious. We asked to meet his family and were rewarded when we got to meet his wife and daughter. It was a precious opportunity that could happen only when the right people come together with amazing care, comfort and guidance for people from far away.

We also went snorkeling and greatly appreciated the professional help and guidance of Stephen, our guide and the boat crew. The weather was a bit rough on the water, but that is nature, and the whole experience was grand. The island was great.

Robert’s Grove arranged and scheduled those tours upon request as part of our package.

Television service included too many channels to discover on a week long trip. But we were able to find great reception on a flat panel TV of football games and other TV shows from the US. I wish I had more time to explore other channels and any Belize broadcasts.

On departure, I forgot my Kindle reader. I called Roberto and told him about it. He said he would look into it. Within minutes he called back. He said the Kindle had been found, and told me he would send it to me. I received the Kindle, bubble wrapped and in perfect condition.

We found that Robert’s Grove is a wonderful place to rest, and a good jumping off place to many choices of places to visit and things to do, many of which Robert’s Grove can expertly arrange for visitors.

There are only two things I would encourage Robert's Grove to do is to put more comfortable furniture in the living room, and add more lighting. Daytime the room is lit by abundant windows. But at night, more light inside would help reading.

If you have read this far, I’ll explain why I named this review, “Second Chance at Romantic Trip”. We had planned to visit Robert’s Grove in February, 2011. But in January I fell dangerously ill with a rare cancer of the heart. Robert’s Grove was very understanding when my wife called to cancel.

Now, three years later and in good health, my wife and I finally got to enjoy our romantic trip to Robert’s Grove.

It was worth the wait.

This place is amazing. The staff is incredible. The food is great with lots of choices. Would return in a heart beat. Could write a book about the place and still not do it justice. It's a place to experience on your own.

My husband and I stayed three days at Roberts Grove before going to Chabil Mar. Both are wonderful hotels. Roberts Grove has a funkier vibe which we found fun. Great bar overlooking the water and an energetic dinner crowd. A little farther out, which led us to explore Maya Beach ( don't miss The Bistro!) and the town of Seine Bight . Great experience and friendly, helpful staff.

We stopped by this resort while we were visiting Placencia. By far the best picturesque bar we have been too! You walk out onto a dock and there is a full service bar with very comfortable lounge chairs to sun yourself. The Piña Coladas were awesome! Make sure to stop by and visit this slice of paradise.

Stayed in #11 Vista for 6 nights Jan 22 and totally enjoyed the view and RG experience. If you are looking for Cancun type activity you will not find it here or probably anywhere in Belize. This is more like Hawaii 50 years ago. Placencia is a small model of what Key West was way back then also. Food is excellent, rooms are clean, spacious, fans and air conditioning if needed works well.
Besides front porch or balcony there are many places to lounge both in and out of sun. Hobie cats are fun and bicycles come in handy. My only criticism is the location of the in-room safe as it is difficult to access. Free shuttle to local airport was an added plus I was not expecting.

Room Tip: Ground level had a good view. 2nd level ocean view is obstructed by mature trees.

We spent 11 days here for our 25th wedding anniversary and had an awesome experience! Louis picked us up at the airport and was very helpful and extremely friendly. He was a great resource for recommending restaurants and grocery stores. (My husband and I like to get away from the resort restaurants and eat where the "locals" eat).

Clifton - a resort worker - was always at the ready to check out bikes to us. We rode into Placencia every day - sometimes twice - a 4 mile ride, which is an easy ride and nice and flat.

The morning complimentary breakfast was plenty of food - typically offering a savory pastry, fresh baked bread, yogurt and fruit, along with juices and coffee. We only ate at the resort twice but would highly recommend the breakfast burrito at Habeneros! It was HUGE and very delish.

The rooms were clean and the staff was extremely friendly! The only "beef" we had was a lack of water - literally. Three times I went to shower and there was no water coming out of the tap. But, it's Belize, no problem. Belize has such a laid back atmosphere - VERY relaxing!

Some restaurants that are a must in Placencia: Secret Garden (must try the stacked ceviche), Omar's Creole Grub (freshest fish of many unusual types), and DeTach. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

First, remember you are in Central America and abandon your North American standards and you will thoroughly enjoy RG. Having said that, it offers all the amenities you need-restaurants, activities, good accommodation, and exceptional staff. Compared to other accommodation in the area, RG is head and shoulders above most. Placencia is a wee village of restaurants, bars, and rooms/cabins to rent. It doesn't take long too see all that it has to offer. RG offers bikes for guests which were the best way to see the area and explore. Take a tour to any of the ruins which is an awesome way to see the Cayo District and San Ignacio. St.Herman's Cave was spectacular-be brave and hike the entire mile underground! After the hike through the jungle back to the car you must stop at the inland Blue Hole to wash off the mud and sweat. Ask for Juan as your guide! All staff at RG are incredibly attentive. We had a 1 bdrm villa in building E overlooking the middle pool(upper floor). Everything was great and I can't really find fault with it.
