Maya Beach Hotel
Ranked #2 of 20 Hotels in Placencia

We spent one night at Maya Beach hotel and loved it except for one awkward cleanliness item that was surprising given the care and attention given to everything. We didn't bring it up because everything else was so wonderful, we assumed it was an anomaly. The setting is idyllic and the proprietors and staff are generous with their help and service.

The Bistro chef is truly first rate, with a delicate and bright touch to his seasoning. Everything was fresh, seasonal--perfection. Unfortunately closed on Monday, Valentine's Day. We went back for our second dinner on Tuesday even though we were staying elsewhere at that point.

The only conflict with Maya Beach Hotel and our style of travel is it is a little too isolated. We like more interaction with the culture and local community when we visit another country. That takes more planning and effort from Maya Beach Hotel. If you prefer to be around mostly other tourists, then it will be perfect.

Nothing can describe it better than to say, "it is the complete vacation package". The best restaurant is located onsite and has been recently enhanced and fine tuned by the world renowned Executive Chef Douglas Wodja. The hospitality, service and depth of concern exhibited by the owners and staff truly is untangable and appreciated. Add to that the fact that a picture perfect beach resides directly outside the hotel room door and you will discover that there simply is no need to look elsewhere for accomodations. My wife and I enjoyed both the Jaguar and Hibiscus rooms from which we can comfortably state that the Jaguar room exemplifies romance as the bed faces the sea in such a way as to allow for a photographic view of the beach and delightful sunrises. While the Hibiscus room truly is its own little slice of paradice.

We lucked out by staying at the Maya Beach Hotel. It is a boutique hotel on a beautiful stretch of sand, but it's main attraction is a a great gourmet restaurant called the Bistro. We ate there nearly every day for a week and every meal was an inspiration. I doubt whether there is better food anywhere in the Caribbean.

As a television CEO back in Canada, I get to travel a great deal. I must say though, that the owners of the Maya Beach Hotel have created a unique gem in Belize. The accommodations are pristinely Caribbean, and the restaurant fare and service are simply excellent. Daily specials are imaginative (that snook seafood plate with the bourbon sauce -- preceeeded by the lobster bread pudding -- topped with the best Key Lime Pie outside the Florida Keys) and the wine list is excellent. Put this friendly place on your hammock time bucket list! Bill Roberts, Toronto, Canada.

We recently spent a relaxing week at the Maya Beach Hotel in the Dreamsicle Studio. We had read many reviews & it was what we expected. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing place to stay, away from crowds, we would highly recommend this. There was no waiting for anything & we frequently had the beautiful beach to ourselves. The restaurant on site is very good, as are several others within walking distance. We had a kitchenette & were able to get groceries at the nearby market within walking distance. The Monkey River cruise was fun & informative. When the water is calm, we definitely recommend using their kayaks. We paddled along the shoreline & were able to see fish, starfish, & stingrays. The staff was wonderful & we especially enjoyed Marlin! While the bikes aren't fancy, they are adequate to do a little sight seeing. If you are looking for luxury or nightlife, this is not the place for you. While our studio was clean with housekeeping every day, it needs a little TLC. The shower barely worked, we had a broken chair, worn linens, broken clock radio, sheet vrs. curtain on one of the windows. It looks charming & quaint on the outside, however. We knew there was no tv & found out that we missed having one more than we thought we would. We used the Belize Shuttle for ground transportation to & from the airport & it was fine. It was a nice drive during the daylight on our way back to the airport. However, after flying all day, it was a long, daunting drive to get to our resort with the windy roads after dark. To sum up our stay, some of our expectations were exceeded, some things fell below, but it was a wonderful week.

Wow, what a vacation... we took this vacation with my family, (Dad, Mom and two teenage sons; 19 & 15 years old). We immediately fell in love with warm atmosphere and welcoming rooms and staff at the Maya. John and Ellen cater to our every whim, and were wonderful hosts. The Maya Beach Hotel and Bistro is truly a hidden gem. The Hotel Concierge, Marlon was extremely knowledge and the Maya Beach hotel as a whole had excellent connections with the Local Tour Operators; our guides where particularly knowledgeable and all around great guys. My family particularly enjoyed following tours; Jaguar Preserve with Zeff, Monkey River Tour with Derwin, Laughingbird Caye Snorkeling Tour with Nick and SCUBA diving at the Barrier Reef with Doren were all particularly. It was a nice to have such phenomenal restaurant steps away for our room. We had a wonderful time with our waiter Cedric, ask for him! In the era of Mega Resorts, it was truly wonderful to sit at the bar with John and Ellen, and discuss your amazing day.

From day one the staff was polite and accommodating. Great room (Dreamsicle Studio) at a great price. Housekeeping came every day. The AC came in handy at night. We used the free kayaks to go to False Caye. They also have a dock with a swing chair to sit in.
