“Paradise on the Peninsula”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

The Belize Ocean Club is an impressive establishment with top-notch service, beautiful grounds, and large, well-appointed rooms. First, the staff are all genuinely friendly and helpful: The owners were present and mingled with the guests and the locals who frequent the resort. They are great people and are working very hard to get the hotel up to the standards that they are striving for. The staff at the front desk are also very accommodating and will help arrange any excursions, trips into Placencia and take care of anything and everything. The bartenders and servers are all a lot of fun and really make hanging out at the pool bar a joy. Security will run you into the village, to the grocery store and back and forth from the airport, and everyone greets you with a genuine smile. The grounds are beautiful, with colorful flowers and trees everywhere, which are constantly being tended to. The beach, while small, is still one of the nicer ones on the peninsula and is spotless and pristine. The rooms are all suites, and include a large kitchen, which is really nice. The sitting area is large, and having two bedrooms and two bathrooms made the room feel like home versus a hotel.

The second half of the hotel is being completed on the lagoon side and will include a gym and a formal restaurant. The food was good, and while it does take a while for it to be served, you just learn to order early. Being so new, there are still some kinks to be worked out, but they are minor. One suggestion is to have black out blinds in the rooms, as the sunrise early in the morning serves as a bit of an early wake-up call with the brightness. However, waking up to the beautiful scene outside your window is a nice problem to have. It is a bit of a trek into Placencia, but as the other reviews mention, there are ways to get into town (driver, cab or Ritchie's Bus), and with the Bistro and Mango's close by there are alternatives, but there aren't a lot of reasons to leave the BOC. Can't wait to come back!

We had a wonderful stay at the BOC. The staff is superb. Attentive, friendly, accommodating and professional. We stayed for five days in February and discovered the resort had only been open for six weeks. The lagoon side of the resort is still under construction along with an indoor restaurant. The food was very good although it would have been nice to be able to dine indoors from time to time. I would reccommend this resort in the future when they are totally up and running. I would also say that the Placencia Penesula is a lovely place to stay. It is quiet and there is not a constant mass of people all the time. We loved it.

Room Tip: We stayed in a corner lover room and it was wonderful, right on the ocean. I don't think there...

Spent 4 nights at the Belize Ocean Club in Feb 2013. The hotel is new and excellently appointed. The pool and ocean/beach areas are beautiful and impeccably maintained. A few things to note:
1. This place is empty! Probably less than 1/4 full during our stay. Mainly worked to our advantage as the pool/beach/ocean were basically always empty during our visit!
2. Please note--this resort is WAY NORTH on the peninsula. It is, in fact, just North of the Maya Beach village. It will cost you $20US each way for a cab to Placencia village.
3. My party of four had two meals (one lunch, one breakfast) at the hotel. The food was average at best. The food was the only major negative of our stay.
4. The staff are enthusiastic, friendly and very helpful with all requests.
5. We found ants in our cereal boxes which were stored on the counter in the kitchen the first day. We shifted all food storage to the refrigerator after the first night but the ants reappeared each day both in the kitchen and on the dining room table. Not that big a deal but, honestly, I was surprised and disappointed to see them in a "new" hotel at this price point.

Prices at the resort are high and, as mentioned above, you are quite a distance from Placencia village. We found that booking golf carts, tours, etc through the hotel was generally TWICE as expensive as doing it ourselves in town or over the free WIFI at the hotel ($100 for 24hr golf cart from hotel, $50 for same thing in town, $100 for 1/2 day snorkeling per person was quoted to us by hotel front desk, same trip costs $40-$50 at most places in town).

First of all I have got to say that we did not overnight in the hotel, but wanted to do a post because of the exceptional welcome we received
Two years ago this hotel was empty and looking completely derelict. Huge money and a lot of thought has gone into renovations resulting in four low level blocks in a traditional yet modern style with beautifully laid out gardens.
We were staying with family locally, but were warmly welcomed by staff to use the pool and beach areas.
Although they offered drinks there was no pressure and we could stay as long as we liked. They could teach the major chains a lot about PR, and I'd certainly want to stay there if I had no family to go to
The bars snacks are good, although their main restaurant will not be up and running, we understand until around Easter time. If you stay there before , though, it is only a walk to one of the best restaurants around in the Maya Beach Hotel
The prices on the internet seem to put it close to the top end of the price range in the area - although there might be deals around particularly for the longer stay as they get themselves established. This is a hotel that definitely deserves to do well!

Had a six week stay at the Belize Ocean Club during parts of January and February, truly enjoyed our time their. The setting is beautiful, the pool is right there with the ocean just beyond. The staff was very friendly and accomodating, the room was kept very clean. We enjoyed the meals at the restaurant and the pool side bar. Belize is a great place to visit, the people are warm, and the country is beautiful.

This place is hungry for your business since they've only been open for a few months. We stayed there for a week mid-Feb, and there were few guests, LOTS of personal service. Can't beat it!!
We had a two bedroom ocean view which was clean and quiet. There were kayaks and SUP's on the beach for guests to use at no charge. Food was good, drinks great. Expect a few little hiccups while they're getting going, but eagerness to please and the best value for your dollar. They are absolutely determined that you are satisfied, and they'll accept nothing less.

The rooms and grounds are romantic and beautiful, the weather is amazing, the water is warm even in winter. It's an incredible resort with an eager staff.

Note: there is no real snorkeling on the beach, or anywhere nearby. You will want to hire a boat to get to the reef. I didn't know that until we got there, which was a bit of a disappointment.
The hot tub was out of service all week (one of the hiccups) and the pool was out of service for one day, but they got right on it and fixed it quickly. Get some bug spray for the sun flies on the beach, though. The pharmacy in town has some local natural stuff that I found too late, and I got bitten up pretty badly.

Rent a car or take the bus, the cabs are expensive, and we easily could have rented a car for less. The town is a 20 minute ride from the resort, so unless you want to stay at the resort you will want to think about transportation.

We let the concierge hook us up with locals for fishing and snorkeling which were better than the options offered in town. Then we took an awesome dive with SPLASH at Laughing Gull Caye. Best diving and snorkeling I've ever had. The rainforest inner-tubing was a great day trip when the sea got too rough to dive one day.

They're working out the wrinkles, but we plan to keep coming back for the great food, unsurpassed service, and romantic atmosphere on a shoestring budget!

The Belize Ocean Club is a brand new hotel, just opened for 1 month. The grounds and rooms are beautiful and the service impeccable. The food is hit and miss; one night exceptional and the next so-so. The staff are extremely helpful and will go out of their way to meet your every need. We hired a tour guide through the hotel to take us on a Mayan ruins and Inland Blue Hole excursion and it was excellent. One of the staff members, Jason, was really great and got us anything we needed. Would recommend this hotel to everyone!
