We recently had the pleasure of visiting the Belize Ocean Beach Club in Placencia, Belize. Having never been to Belize, we didn't quite know what to expect. We were met at the airport by the amazing Wolf Worster and James Thornett who drove us back to the resort. We were immediately charmed by the unspoiled nature of Placencia; it is not your typical "touristy" town. Quaint restaurants, shops and beautiful lush vegetation line the street on your quick 10 minute trip from the airport to Belize Ocean Beach Club. Upon arrival, we were greeted with cool towels and tropical rum drinks to refresh ourselves. What an unexpected surprise!

But what we came to realize is the service on the whole at Belize Ocean Beach Club is excellent. Basically, they anticipate your every need seemingly before you even begin to ask. And they cater to your every whim and desire. The staff was always 5 steps ahead of our needs. They paid attention and took time to get to know you. For example, we ordered breakfast the first day. The second day, they were already aware of what we wanted. There was a request made the first day for soy milk. They didn't have it. The second day, it miraculously appeared and was there from every day forth. They also knew exactly who was vegan and who requested it.

Also, upon leaving, Crystol was kind enough to serve us coffee in our rooms as we had an early flight. Lovely, steaming coffee was presented with a smile and a thank you punctually at 5am sharp.

James, Miguel, Jason and Maria at the restaurant took the time to learn about what we wanted and what we liked in regards to food. One member of our party was a red wine drinker. The next day, Jason recommended wines after doing research on what was available to him that would suit our palates.

So, as you can see, the thing that separates this resort from others is the people and the kind staff. But there is also fine dining, beautiful scenery, a powder soft white beach, comfortable and luxurious rooms and an ocean view for all. And speaking of the rooms, they are spacious with vaulted ceilings, air conditioning to die for based on the humid climate, 1200 square feet of living space and have a full working kitchen. The kitchen is extremely cost effective. The staff let us use their bicycles and we rode 10 minutes down the road to the local grocery store to buy breakfast items. So much fun and a great way to see some local sites. And each unit has a large balcony to watch the sunrise and sunset, how romantic! What's not to love?

A special thanks to Ben, Wolf, and James for making this visit a perfect vacation to remember. We will definitely return to Belize Ocean Beach Club hands down! They are willing and welcome to embrace their guests in a very special way.

FYI: The American dollar is pegged to the Belize dollar, 2-1. Lots of bang for your buck in Belize!

BOC we love you.

Beautiful property, with a pool that is unrivaled anywhere in Belize. Palapa bar (with swim up bar on the pool side) is perfect for sipping on a cocktail. Ask Efner or Jason for a Mr. Smith's Coconut Mojito. Unbelievable!

While the beauty of the property dazzles upon arrival, there is more to the BOC than flash and hype. There is a warmth and friendliness that truly made us feel welcome.

From the front desk staff of Basilio, Eleanor and Emmanuel (and Elmer!) to Amarellis who worked extremely hard cleaning up after us each day and keeping our room pristine, to Caesar and my man Francis who always put a smile on my face. Not to mention the absolutely, hands down, best bar staff I have ever come across!

Starting with Efner the bar manager, Jason, Sammy, Hendri (I can never get it right), Crystal, Miguel, Charlie, Ervillo; everyone is amazing. I'm talking above and beyond. They have a knack for remembering guest names, and not just what they drink, but exactly how they like it.

If you are celebrating a special occasion, they also have a romantic beach dinner, where they place a single table on the sand far from the bar, lighted by tiki torches. You will feel like you have paradise to yourself. Chef Edwin is doing a great job evolving the menu. I can't wait to see what he has added when I return next. His Shrimp quesadilla has crack in it, I swear, it's so good.

There is volleyball set up on the beach, beautiful day beds, a hammock, two complimentary sea-kayaks, and a couple hundred yards of the best beach on the Placencia Peninsula. They also have 6 or 8 bicycles for complimentary guest use as well. We rode into the Placencia village on a number of occasions.

The front desk staff is also great about coordinating airport pick-ups, or shuttles into/from town for the day or night.

Within Maya Beach, if you want to leave the property for a change of pace, there is a bowling alley, a grocery store, a chinese restaurant, Mango's beach bar, Maya Beach Hotel Bistro, and Bonefish Grille at Singing Sands. All very easy bike rides, or a good NYC walk.

Steve, the GM, is a new edition to the family and already has added some nice touches.

And last but not least, Ben, the CEO/owner, and his fiancé Jenny are very visible and hands-on around the property, and really add to the BOC experience, taking hospitality to a new level.

I know I got long-winded, but all-in-all from the top on down to the groundskeepers and maintenance staff, and everyone in between the people at the BOC really give it a soul. Kind, warm, and welcoming, you can bet we will be returning annually, if not more to this outstanding property.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor of each building have vaulted ceilings, really giving the room a spacious...

My boyfriend and I stayed here in mid-June, and had a wonderful time. Every staff member, from the front desk to the bartenders, seemed to genuinely care about our comfort and experience. Elenor especially went out of her way to assist us with every aspect of our vacation, from coordinating our pick up from the airport to arranging our activities and rides into town. This was especially important to us as this was our first trip to Belize and we were unaware of what to do and how to get around. The room itself was beautiful, with more space than we needed - a 10 second walk outside from our patio led us to the pool, and within 30 seconds we had our toes in the ocean. Everything was clean and well-organized. The resort itself was beautiful, looked like a tropical paradise. Thank you!

Stayed here for a week and was very impressed with the property. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the GM, handed a Rum Punch, & escorted to our rooms. The rooms are nice and spacious and always kept clean. Any request we had was never replied back with a "no", but instead a "no problem" or "we will try our best". Beyond excellent customer service not just at this property but the entirety of our trip. The pools are kept clean and the bartenders at the swim up bar were always attentive. Shout out to Jason & Sammy as they kept us entertained and always gave above & beyond service. We stayed at the resort before their restaurant was complete, but we did manage to order from the pool bar & had dinner on the beach (and watched our OKC Thunder on TV!). Food was great! Highly recommend the Conch Fritters. We ventured into town almost every day and the resort was nice enough to offer us a complimentary ride into town which is about a 15 min ride. Taxi rides back were exactly $20 US dollars which we didn't think was bad at all. There is also a small grocery store about a 10 minute walk from the resort which we did buy breakfast to cook in our room for the majority of our stay. One of our favorite highlights of our stay was the Sunday pool party at the resort. They invite everyone in Placencia to attend and I must say it was a BLAST! We will definitely be back one day!! A few things we did offsite I highly recommend and each has it's own review on TripAdvisor:
- ATM Cave Tour - A must! Carlos the Caveman is your ultimate guide.
- We took a Sunset Pontoon ride out on the lagoon with a local named Eric. I could not find on TripAdvisor to place a review, but ask the bartenders/front desk about it. Eric provided us with drinks, dinner, & great company on his beautiful boat. He only does private bookings. Again, a must.
- Diving at Robert's Grove
- William with Belize Shuttles is a great way to see & experience Belize if you don't want to take a charter plane into Placencia from Belize City. So glad we did this!
- Restaurants/Bars: Secret Garden, Yoli's, Tutti Fruitti, Omar's, Purple Space Monkey, Tipsy Tuna, & Barefoot Bar & Jon the Baker Man (tiny shack off boardwalk that bakes fresh bread & cinnamon rolls).
- FYI: Buy any liquor at the Airport! Sooo much cheaper than in town. We bought a couple bottles of wine & vodka to keep in our room. Pool bar closes a bit early so good idea to bring your own. Also, dining out was very reasonable every where we went. We had to take a double look at our tab each time...couldn't believe how inexpensive it actually was.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms. All face the beach & have a balcony, but the top floor where we stayed h...

We stayed for 10 nights in May. Our apartment was spacious and comfortable, and right on the beach. It was heavenly being able to sleep with our window open at night and listening to the waves crashing. The location of the resort is perfect, and the beach is kept in perfect condition. The pool is amazing and great for a proper swim, or cocktails at the bar. We had some lovely meals in the beach bar. There are other hotels a walk away for eating out, and the staff at BOC are great if you want a lift to Placencia. There are lots of interesting trips to do in Belize. One of the outstanding things is that the staff are so lovely at the resort. Elmer and Basilio were particularly helpful when we needed to organise trips. Belize Ocean Club is wonderful, we will be back!

Just attended what was described to me as "the largest event Placencia has ever seen" - a four-day weekend wedding event at Belize Ocean Club. In spite of this large group size, service rarely lacked and the property always felt calm/low key. In attendance were people of all ages, ranging from singles to couples to families to old folks. Everyone that I spoke with agreed that it was a great property, for a number of reasons. They are:

1) It is new - opened in December 2013 so everything is clean and feels/operates like new, including the stellar wi-fi. No roughing it here. The rooms are all two-bedroom suites (queen and two twins) with full kitchens, about 1,200 square feet in size. A total of four adults were in our room and it never felt crowded.
2) There is clearly a focus on service - not that BOC can take all the credit for the warm personalities of Belizeans in general, but everyone had a smile on their face and wanted nothing more than to make your stay a pleasant one.
3) It has a wide, private-feeling sandy beach that would be perfect for either lounging or letting your kids play while you sit at the pool (waves are lake-sized and ocean is shallow). There is also a lagoon side to the property, which has its own charm.
4) The food - in general it ranged from fairly good to really/wow good.

It would not be fair for me to gloss over the areas that could use some work, such as:

A) The mattresses are hard as a rock - we slept fine but that may be an issue for some.
B) Wash cloths were a rare commodity for our room for some reason (only had one for one of five nights there).
C) The AC - which typically worked well - did not work in a few rooms (there is an on-site AC specialist who worked hard to get that fixed).
D) The location is a 20+ minute drive from Placencia Village. For the most part that is ok, but we got tired of driving back and forth on the days that we went into town. While there is a free shuttle, they were not always willing or available to take us when needed so we occasionally had to spend $30 USD on a cab (one way).

Overall, there is no question that I would return to this property if I was going to Placencia again. It's just too nice and well run to miss out on. Not sure how big the event business is in Belize, but this is a great property for groups. At the same time, I would be perfectly happy bringing my kids or staying as a couple. It really does work for any group size. So, I say go go go!

We attended a 4 day event at the Belize Ocean Club in May. If you're planning to have an event at BOC, this review should be particularly helpful. As everyone has said, the beach is great, the rooms are great, the pool is fantastic! A few things stood out to us in particular...the wifi was great and easily accessible compared to other resorts in Belize that we've been to. You can literally take a picture and share it online almost instantly, huge plus because this is not very common in Belize. The staff...wow! Flawless, especially the guys at the bar. Our event had a little over 100 guests and Ben (the owner) and staff kept the level of service consistent throughout our say. One last thing, the view at the back was breathtaking for the reception! So much that it makes no sense to attempt to describe it but I'll try. Basically, we were on the second floor, looking out at the lagoon and mayan mountains at the back, silhouetted by the sunset! Images to come...
