Our family of five (3 teenage sons) stayed in a two-br suite at the Belize Ocean Club in June of 2018 and it was the perfect location to kick off our 10 day trip to Belize! We enjoyed amazing food (in the onsite restaurant "16 Degrees", the swim-up bar, and pre-ordered breakfast from the restaurant) friendly and response staff people, and a variety of other thoughtful amenities, such as complimentary kayaks, paddle-boards, spray on sunscreen at the bar and bug spray in the restaurant. Fermin, the activities coordinator, was fantastic to work with and so flexible! He arranged our half-day snorkeling expedition to the reef (we anchored off Saltwater Caye and had two one-hour snorkeling swims through the entire area near this caye). He also gave us multiple options for other activities--including tubing, ziplining, recommendations for ATM guides in San Ignacio, and also a "Catch and Cook" excursion for my husband to go fishing. Even though we didn't book all of these, he was happy to give us as much information as we needed.

Our accomodations were great--beds were comfy and hot water was plentiful and strong water pressure! This property is really nice because it spans the peninsula--and has a lagoon-side (where the restaurant and check-in desk is located) and an ocean-side (where we stayed--has the pool, multiple shaded locations to sit and look at the water, eat, etc.) Many other properties are only on one side.

Food was delicious! We went to Placencia fully intending to take the resort shuttle into town for our dinners--but, after the first meal at 16 Degrees (the restaurant and bar onsite) we decided to just stay on property! Lobster season began the day we arrived, so there were multiple lobster specials (appetizers, lunch specials available at the pool, and dinner specials every night) during our stay. These weren't on the menu that we checked before our stay, but they were SO good! Also, on Father's Day, the restaurant staff set up a special afternoon-long BBQ station right at the pool/bar area with shrimp, chicken and pork that was awesome!

Bar(s) (at the pool and in the restaurant) were wonderful! Staff who work the bar during the day are also your waiters for breakfast and dinner, so they got to know all three of our sons immediately, and were just so responsive, friendly, and all around wonderful! Juan, Oswin, Alexander and Jamie took great care of us. My 19 year old son would go onto his phone, search for rum-based drinks that weren't on the menu, and then ask the bartenders if they would be able to make them (this happened at quiet times during the day!) and they always obliged--and even told my husband and I that one of them was so good they are planning to add it to their menu.

My husband and I wanted "lime in da coconut" -- which had been a favorite drink when we were in St. Croix -- and all the bartenders told us this would be a challenge for them--but, on Father's Day, when there was a quiet time in the afternoon--Jamie cut down 4 coconuts from the trees around the bar, sliced them up, and made us an amazing lime in da coconut, as well as another custom coconut drink for a lady on the other side of the bar who was sitting in the pool. I share these two stories NOT to encourage you to come up with crazy challenges, but just to illustrate I hope the generosity and warmth of all the staff we encountered here. We bought this trip at a charity auction, so we were limited to the location in Belize. And, based on some of the reviews from March/April, we were a little concerned about the property.

As soon as we arrived on-site, however, we were so happy we were staying here. For our family, and for the other travelers we talked to during our stay, we had an amazing experience! Some other reviewers were concerned about broken beach chairs, but for our stay, everything was great! There were tons of chairs, fresh, clean beach towels out on the ocean side every morning by 7:30 a.m. (probably earlier, but we were sleeping in!) and all through the day, two staff people were raking the beach area, and skimming the pool for leaves that occasionally fell in.

One final note regarding communication--before and during our stay--which was excellent. Monique in particular contacted me multiple times to confirm our transportation, any special needs in our room or on-property (such as excursions), and was there at the front door to welcome us when we arrived! Our plane into Belize City was delayed, so Monique emailed me immediately to say they knew about the delay and would be ready for us when we arrived. Great property and we would stay here without hesitation on a repeat trip to Placencia!

Took a group of new high school graduates for a week in Belize. BOC became home base as we traveled to a few other properties. Staff, facilities, and amenities were first class. Treated us like long time friends.

We loved Belize Ocean Club! The staff and resort were Greg and our group had a fabulous time. The only recommendation is to have more hotel shuttles running back and forth to the village more frequently!

Belize Ocean Club is right in Maya Beach, in the northern part of the Placencia peninsula, thereby making it a good location if you plan on making this your base for all of your tours and excursions. The problem with staying all the way in Placencia village is that you are at the end of the road and you will spend 30 minutes each time just to leave the peninsula.

The property is well manicured and is very beautiful. We stayed in a premiere sunrise suite and it was very convenient, though I think a premiere sunset suite would have been better. The view on the west side was beautiful all throughout the day and the sunsets were spectacular! The premiere sunrise suite, however, as I've stated earlier, is more convenient in that it brings you closer to the pool (and the pool bar!), as well as the beach. If you do get a sunrise suite, it is not that far of a walk. I've certainly been to resorts where the walk to the beach is at least 4 times the amount here. It really isn't that far.

At the resort, we took advantage of their free bike rentals and kayaks! They were great, though riding your bike on Placencia Road is not as safe as driving in Hopkins, as the traffic is much much more. The kayaks were fun to use. We stayed in the area, but it is not unheard of for people to kayak all the way to False Caye. I've been told people go there and snorkel. As far as the difficulty level of doing that, I cannot tell you.

The service here is top notch! The staff at 16 Degrees were always so nice and eager to please! Freddy at the pool bar was also phenomenal! His drinks were delicious and he notified us whenever they had specials or when it was happy hour!

Not really a big problem, but a couple of things that would make this resort better: 1. Advanced notice that check-in is on the right side of the road if coming from the North (to the left if coming from the South). 2. When you pull in by the check-in area, there should be someone waiting to welcome you. We didn't know where to go and no one came out of the building to direct us. Again, these are not deal breakers nor were they frustrating for us, I just feel that this would greatly help in welcoming in your guests.

Our stay there was great, we enjoyed all that Belize Ocean Club had to offer, and will definitely stay there again when we are in the area!

Room Tip: Lagoon side has better views and close to restaurant. Ocean side closer to the beach and pool area.
