“Location, accommodations and hosts exceeded expectations”

I stayed at Captain Jak's recently with 6 friends. We rented the villa. I was a little worried about sleeping arrangements, but the two queens in the bedrooms, the full and the twins in the lofts were just fine. Lucky & Erin were very helpful and sweet. Lucky even gave us some home made bread from a local family. The cinnamon bread made a delicious French toast! Lucky helped me set up a couple tours. I had found a snorkeling team that was cheaper than the one that Lucky had suggested, so we hopped in his gold cart and Lucky asked them all the questions I hadn't thought to ask. I was so glad we went with Avadon Divers as he had suggested - even had a National Geographic photographer along on our trip! They were really great.

The villa was very comfortable, very clean. Beautiful wood floors throughout. We loved the deck facing the lagoon in the evenings. The smaller deck on the beach side was nice in the morning. Couldn't quite see the beach from the house, but the beautiful beach was a very quick walk of just a few minutes. Well, it would have been a quick walk if we didn't feel the need to stop at De Tatch for a tasty breakfast or at Barefoot bar for a snack or drink on the way. Our sweet waitress at Barefoot Bar even offered to bring us drinks out to the beach. Loved that place!

We thought we'd use the kitchen more often but ended up only cooking one breakfast because the food at the local restaurants was just so darn good. The kitchen was beautiful. It was adequately furnished as far as utensils & pots and pans go.

Erin suggested that we make sugar water for the hummingbird feeder every other day or so. We had numerous, brightly colored, brave birds come visit. We could sit within feet of the feeder& they'd fly right up.

The two bathrooms were nice and they had plenty of nice oversized towels there to cover us for the week.

The loft is split in half, one side has the two twin beds, one with a double. It doesn't offer much in the way of privacy, but the split helps keep it separated and there's enough room for everyone's suitcases.

All this added with a very reasonable price! I'd definitely recommend!

We rented the villa for a week to celebrate a friends special birthday. It was exactly what we were hoping for. The place is quite large with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable furniture.

2 of the bedrooms are air conditioned and have en-suite baths. The other beds are in sleeping lofts above the living room and kitchen. We slept 7 comfortably.

Lucky and Erin are fantastic, they assisted us with day trips and places to eat with the locals.

All in all we were pleased and would love to return.

We stayed at Captin Jak's in Placencia for 9 wonderful days. Lucky and Erin were so warm, hospitable, and helpful. The cabins are clean, comfortable, and have everything you would need. The property is beautiful and well looked after. It is situated right beside the lagoon, so take advantage of sitting out on the dock to watch the sunset.
What an amazing vacation spot. We will be back!!!

Recently spent a week here while visiting friends. Can't thank the owners enough for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Every comfort was provided. The resort is close to shopping, restaurants and bars, yet the area is peaceful and secluded. The property boasts numerous flora and a myriad of butterflies. The beach is just across the road on one side, and the lagoon...with spectacular sunset views...is on the other side. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Captain Jak's to all my friends, and I hope to be able to return there one day myself.

Room Tip: I stayed in the main house, which is great for larger groups/families. The cabanas are more private...

A great, quiet and beautiful compound with wonderful hosts! The villas and rooms are completely furnished for short or longer term stays, Coffee Makers, fridges, stoves, and everything you need to cook at home, yet only a short walk to some of the best Restaurants and Bars and Shops Placencia offers. Right across from the beach, they have lagoon access with kayak, bike, and electric car rentals right on the property. Right next door is a great little fruit and veggie booth and a cool little gourmet coffee and smoothy bar.

As for service, Lucky and Erin are super friendly, freely offer a wealth of local knowledge and are absolutely charming hosts. Anything you need, they gladly help you with. Great people to have a drink with and pretty lethal Backgammon players too...lol.

We would never stay anywhere else while in Placencia, try em out and you'll see why!

Room Tip: There really are all great rooms have stayed in different ones and loved them all.

Their descriptions and photos are very right on. We (2 of us) wanted rest and quiet. We got it.
Spent 8 nights there and enjoyed every minute. Got kind of warm and of course there is high humidity, but the fans keep it okay.
Perfect sunsets and small village to explore.
Do not miss Tutti Fruitti ice cream.
Attended church on Mother's Day and was made to feel most welcome.
Percy picked us up on the dock 10 ft. from our cabana door and took us to the jungle for a very educational hike, ate live, minty, white termites, I made him eat them first, even though he offered them to me first.
He made me a great hiking stick and customs did not take it away from me, yeah.
Kayaked several times.
Mostly napped, read and enjoyed our privacy.
Every thing you need is within
walking distance.
The taxi from the airport was $3 US per person.
This is a middle range priced place to stay. It is not a hostel and it is not a chain. It is a good value.
Thank you Erin, Lucky, Jason, Wilmer, Barney and Oliver.

Room Tip: The cabana by the dock.

We booked the Private villa back in the fall of 2012, for Spring break 2013. We got back last night.
We have a family of 4 adults and met my sister and her friend so there was 6 of us in the house. It is very large that we were never crowded or felt cramped. The Villa has 2 bedrooms down stairs and upstairs in a loft there are two separate sleeping areas that sleep 2 in each area, one area has a double bed and the other has 2 single beds. There is 2 bathrooms down stairs. The kitchen has a large stove and fridge and has everything you would need right down to the blender.. can openers, serving plates, wine glasses... even a little hand juicer for limes.. ( could not find one so bought it across the street then Erin told us where it was.. now there are two.) .

There are two large decks with tables and chairs, one on the front and one on the back. Each morning we would sit on the back and again listen to the conversation of Barney and Oliver the resident parrots, we would miss them when Lucky would bring them in to eat.. The yard is very nice and there are tons or birds. Erin has a hummingbird feeder on the back deck and I would fill it each morning as the Hummers and the Orioles would have it empty each morning.

We loved the location :
The Caribbean is a 2 minute walk
Mings grocery store is across the road
Fruit stand is next door
Lucky & Erin rent Golf carts, bikes, moped, Kayaks..
The location is about 6 minute walk to the barefoot bar where we went every day at 5:00 for Happy Hour.
It is close enough to restaurants and bars to walk but far enough to get away from
the hustle and bustle/ noise. ( We were there at Easter and it was really busy in the main of town and the beach but not in the area of Captain Jaks.)
Beautiful beach with palm trees for shade.
It is on the lagoon where they have their dock so you can sit and enjoy the sunsets, breeze,
or just the quiet.

If we needed anything we would just ask Lucky or Erin or Jason or the new guy Lantro. Not sure about the spelling.. Lucky and Erin did every thing they could to make our stay unforgettable. If we needed anything they were very approachable, and even suggested a place or two for us to go and the place to rent a car for a couple of days ( We booked that in January) . We were fortunate as Lucky was able to come with us one day in our rental van and give us a tour with the history of some of the places we went.
They told us good restaurants to eat last time we were there .

Fantastic people and Fantastic place. When we return we will for sure be calling Lucky and Erin at Captain Jaks to stay.. We were also fortunate that during the 13 days we were there we had a chance to look at the other buildings. We would gladly spend time ( and probably will) in any of the cabanas once we travel with the two of us.

We would highly recommend Captain Jaks for everyone. I did write a review last time we were there as well with a little more information. If you have questions please feel free to e-mail me or even Lucky or Erin as they will gladly answer your questions.

When we left this year we for sure left some new friends with Lucky and Erin.
