Other than agreeing with all the other reviews, I just have to add that Kate and Ian are what make the cottages special. Yes it is beautiful, yes the food is great...
But how often do you get a sense of humor like Ian's? Not only is he a kick, but he also knows the area and can be helpful (if you can stop laughing). Kate is a dear and works her butt off (as does Ian, what a waiter),in order to make Hickatee a place to remember. And yes, the bread......oh the bread!

I can't say enough good things about Hickatee. All the previous reviews are well stated.

I spent 2 nights there at the end of January on my way to Plancencia to meet friends. Keep in mind Punta Gorda is a bit off the beaten track, but it is still a fun place to visit. Ian and Kate couldn't be more wonderful. There was coffee on the balcony every morning and great meals every night. They also know a lot about the area, so it's fun to talk to them and learn more about the local culture and people.

I couldn't recommend this place more.

My husband never wants to stay at a B&B, I think this stay has changed his mind, but at the same time, we will have very high expectations! Ian and Kate are very good company and very helpful. They are perfect for the job! One of the more comfortable stays in Belize.

From the very first moment until the final good-bye, our stay at Hickatee cottages was very top-notch. Ian and Kate provided much insight into the local culture and area of Punta Gorda, and provided us with information that few, we assume, are privy to.
Kate's food is some of the finest we have had in our travels, and set a standard that would not be matched in the rest of our trip to Belize.
Thier tips also led us to great little restaurants, completely serene Mayan ruins (we were the only people there at two different sites!),
and wonderful markets in town.
We would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Ian picked us up at the Punta Gorda airport, and then drove us through PG to show us around and help us get oriented. When we arrived at Hickatee, we were introduced to Kate , then taken to our cottage. We were lucky enough to have the stand alone suite that Kate and Ian used to occupy! It was newly remodeled, and had a nice bathroom and a great living room area with furniture from a local place. A nice place to relax at the end of the day. When we made it over to the bar and dining area, we were able to get some drinks before dinner and chat with Darryl and Ian a bit. The food that was served was great, and Kate and Ian were always friendly. They planned some trips for us, were very knowledgeable about the area and Belize in general, and were great company. Among the many things we liked about Hickatee, we especially enjoyed the coffee that was delivered to our veranda every morning, complete with local chocolate for making mochas. We also enjoyed hearing the sounds of the jungle at night. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to returning to Hickatee. The hospitality was fanstastic, and we would highly recommend Hickatee to anyone who is looking to stay somewhere off the beaten path. Kate and Ian are wonderful and will do whatever it takes to make sure you enjoy your stay!
