Definitely include a visit to the cemetery when you are in town visiting the market. The colorful tombs set in the beautiful mountain side are a sight to remember. Many local families with children were enjoying the afternoon there - and the ice cream cart even made an appearance. There were numerous active Mayan religious ceremonies taking place all throughout the cemetery on altars specifically situated for this purpose. We even observed one that involved fireworks inside of the ceremonial fire. I'll admit, that one was a little unnerving as the priest and patron were both taking shelter behind adjoining tombs while they insisted to us that it was safe to walk past ;-).
