“Authentic and accomodating.”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We used to live in Chichi and know that there aren't many options there. We ended up at the Hotel Chalet after reservations at another place didn't work out. The Chalet was fun and quirky, and very much an authentic Guatemalan hotel run by a local family. It was the least expensive place we stayed and wasn't luxurious, but it was comfortable and the beds were good. Owner Manual, his wife, and staff welcomed us and made us very comfortable, giving us a choice of rooms. The restaurants he recommended were very good. We used the pila on the rooftop patio, which had sweeping view of Chichi, to wash out our clothes. Our breakfast was included, served in a small dining area. The hotel is about 4 blocks from the main square/market, so it was quieter on market morning than other hotels.

It was ok, just that. Managing expectativas is everything. Somehow, reading other reviews I expected something special...I know, I know, that every tourist's fantasy...
The place is ok on a side street. Clean enough. Noting special. A bit overpriced for what we got. But having said that on a Saturday evening, just before the market, it is probably a good budget option, it is fine for 1 night stay. BTW the picture of the colourful cemetery shown on every hotels website...I don't think you can see that from any of the local hotels' windows ;-)
The market is some experience you definitely should not miss it!

We loved our stay. Room was very clean. Bed was comfy. Rooftop was beautiful. Owners were very nice and fun. They advised us on a nice restaurant. The location was good; a little out of the way of the madness of the market, but not super far away.
The hotel itself was inviting and cute and the owners would chat to you as much as you want. They also personally showed us around town a little.
The place was a great bargain. Very pleased!

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms are cheaper.

This is the most wonderful, eclectic strange little hotel. It has so much personality. It's not luxurious or spacious, but the owner Manuel and his wife more than makes up for those things with his kindness, concern and guidance. The hotel is tucked away in Chichi, which is a tiny little town and very safe. We were there for the Sunday market but decided to stay for two nights and do Lake Panajachel as a day tip with Manuel. We really enjoyed exploring Chi Chi and had some wonderful meals. Make sure Manuel tells you about the little dessert restaurant around the corner - poached peaches, fried plaintain with sugar and cream and the best hot chocolate in Guatemala.

The hotel is secure and homely, but seems to us that the owner is very money hungry (albeit friendly). We paid Q240/night for a small, well decorated room with a private bathroom - although very expensive for what it was. Breakfast not included, comfortable bed, free soap & towels, clean room/bathroom, fantastic relaxing top floor terrace.

We booked and paid for two nights but had to cancel the second night. We were refunded Q100 of the Q240 room price - we accepted this cost as we were the ones that cancelled (nb. we were given some excuse about the 'tax man' and how our accommodation had already been logged with them... Definitely not believable!).

In addition, the owner told us that to get to Antigua it would cost at least Q160 but he would only charge the minimum Q160, so we accepted (without doing our research) and we arrived in Antigua only to find that the going rate is Q80-Q100!

It was an ok stay but experience was tainted by the profit oriented owner.

I had forgotten my telephone in the room, I noticed it when I get back at the end of the day at night. I sent a message to Lucia, the owner. I received an answer 5 minutes later. The next Day The owners send it back to me Without charging anything. They are very helpfull And Nice. Of course I recommend this hôtel very simple and pleasent. Ni wifi but 2 computers can be used for free with good connexion.

Room Tip: Our room was very clear at the First flot.
