This area has some wonderful views both the lake and the volcanic scenery are beautiful. We stayed in Panajachel and took boat trips to 3 very different places on the lake. The people who live here are the living Maya and have fairly basic and simple lifestyles. The most developed village was San Juan La Laguna some weaving/craft shops etc have been set up here. Then we went to Santiago Atitlan which was a poorer village - the people here amazed me by weaving names with thread on to pens in seconds! The final village was San Antonio Palopa where many children were begging -and it tugs the strings of your heart. Well worth visiting- a humbling experience.
