“Wonderful time in Panajachel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2013

We had a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen, bedroom and small sitting room. The gardens were a terrific addition to the facilities. We enjoyed the thermal tubs almost every day and sat out enjoying the sunshine after all of our outings with Mayan Families. The hotel staff, especially the maid service were top notch. My wife had a health problem and the hotel staff had a doctor there to help her within a half hour. He even went to the pharmacy and brought back the prescription as well as some Gatorade to rehydrate her. We ate several times in the dining room and enjoyed the meals there. We stayed for three weeks and were reluctant to leave. The only negative I can think of was the noise from the elemenary school next door if you happened to be at your room during school hours. They were celebrating Mardi Gras so I guess they can be excused for being so loud. I took some great pictures of the flowers around the grounds that I still enjoy.

It is located in the center of Panajachel. The cabins are surrounded by a lavish garden, full of flowers. There is a sauna that will be the delight of sauna fans and hot tubs. Staff is extremely polite and helpful and breakfast was really good. Overall, very good value for money.

This hotel is just off the Main Street in the resort, and is close to the restaurants and market stalls. You would think therefore that a certain level of noise would be experienced, but this is not the case. The rooms are set among peaceful, quiet gardens, and give no hint of the wonderful world to be experience outside the hotel gate. The rooms were very comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent. Staff-reception, cleaning, restaurant and security-were all friendly. Wifi or free use of a computer is available in reception. This was a great place to stay

Hotel location was superb, gardens and natural hot tubs/sauna were wonderful. Breakfast was very, very good. Service and all the hotel employees were very friendly and accommodating.

Yes, room was a bit dated and was a bit disapointing compared to the beautiful hotel grounds. Could use a bit of fresh color in the room. The dull earth tones between the dated furniture and all the fabrics in our room were in stark contrast to all the lovely colors/textiles you see in Guatemala (and not in a good way). A lttle color would go a long way to brighten up the rooms. However, the shower/hot water was fantastic. Bed was fine. Our room was clean and quiet.

Safe, helpful, economical, easy access location. Enjoy your stay. Make the most of the outdoor surroundings at this lovely location.

Room Tip: We did ask for and receive a room in the back overlooking the gardens. Quiet.

We had a good stay at the Regis. It's location is perfect, right in the middle of the shopping district. But it is not noisy at all. The grounds are beautiful with 2 hot baths and a sauna (you need to give 2hours notice before using the sauna so they can get it hot). We did not eat there but had great coffee every morning in the breakfast area. The wifi only worked in the hotel lobby. The cable tv had plenty of US channels but reception was fair. Daily maid service was great. I would definitely stay there again.

A real Sauna! Real Hot Springs! A great Masseuse! The wonderful gentleman who takes care of these facilities and makes sure everything is working to perfection! This is a great old (1934)hotel, the grounds are beautiful, the people care, the rooms are very nice although that can vary greatly. But, where else do you have the other options? Only downside...the restaurant. Wish it could open from the other side and be more friendly. Seems a tad out of date and the cooking was inedible. But, breakfast (included) was fabulous.

Room Tip: The ones at the very end of the driveway turning to the right upon entering the hotel proper.

The Regis is located right on the busy main street in Panajachel and I was thinking noise may be a problem, but when we received our room key and walked behind the main building, a beautiful, quiet, park-like view appeared! A well-manicured lawn and garden greeted us and we felt welcome. The room we stayed in had a nice little foyer, a closet space, local weavings, good water pressure. The bed was very firm; too firm for me but my wife loved it! The pillows were a bit lumpy, but were adequate for the task. The room was clean, old fashioned, and just what we were looking for! The turned the towels into art and it was fun to see what awaited us in the evening when returned to the hotel Laundry service was fast and neat. A massage can be arranged in the garden, and a friend who partook said she was so relaxed that the experience was ‘other worldly ‘. The wireless internet does not reach the rooms, but works in front lobby and dining room without any trouble. The breakfasts, though a bit more expensive at 60Q, was in fact a wonderful meal with omelets to order, tamales, fresh juice, fresh fruit, sweet rolls that I could not resist, wonderful coffee and many other tasty items! Did I mention the hot volcanic springs? A nice hot soak in one of the two pools was a wonderful way to end the day. The service staff was wonderful! My Spanish is, well, let us just say ‘muy mal’ is an understatement, but the wonderful staff was very patient! The bar area is quite small and almost forgotten, but made a nice gathering area for a group of friends with what could be called our own personal bartender. This hotel is not your modern cookie cutter hotel. It has charm and character and history and volcanic hot springs and we were very satisfied with our stay.
