“Could only be LOUDER if the hotel was in the middle of a packed stadium during the World Cup final.”
Reviewed 7 December 2012

First off, the hotel is in an amazing location. It is right on the river with amazing views, immediate boat access, and a pleasant atmosphere. It was nice that there was a nice restaurant included, including after-dark music and entertainment. Overall the place had amazing aesthetic appeal. Trying to sleep was another story. The music blasted until around 2am, and all rooms are pretty much wide open with no solid walls to stop sound. Our room was also put next to a storage closet (separated only by a screen), and we were disturbed both at night and at the crack of dawn by employees crashing and slamming things around in there. Staff were also shrieking and cackling way too early outside of our door while eating and enjoying their breakfast in our area. Also service at the restaurant involved interminable waits each time. Even with only one other person at the restaurant, there would be a 15 minute wait before the waiter resurfaced in the distance.

We had a great stay at Hotel Backpackers in October. The room was nice and clean. The restaurant in the hotel was very good. The staff was pretty good, and all the profits from the hotel go to help a local school/orphanage for kids in the surrounding area. We were able to go for a tour of the orphanage with the director Heather, it was great to see the work that they are doing. I highly recommend visiting the hotel and touring the orphanage as well. The work they are doing is awesome! The only drawback to this hotel is that it isnt very close to town. Its a long walk or 5 minute tuk tuk ride to get there. But the plus is that its located right on the river and boats take you right to the hotel.

Do you want to do more than party while traveling in Central America and yet enjoy great company in fun surroundings. You can enjoy the hostel setting or opt for a private room for low to moderate cost right on the historic Rio Dulce gateway to Lake Izabel. What's to do? How about jet skiing, sailing, horseback riding or exploring castles or soaking in thermal springs . All these experiences are possible within minutes of the Hotel. Best of all is knowing that your stay is helping the orphaned or children of low income families being educated and housed at the Childrens Village of Casa Guatemala. All the profits generated at the hotel/resuraunt is reinvested to support the effort to provide the children a chance to be children. Take a tour of the village and you will see an international team of volunteers helping the children in all aspects of growing up. Who knows, you might end up wanting to join in the effort and experience a life-changing opportunity.

Room Tip: The rooms futher away from the main road are quieter and give you more options.
