“Well worth a visit!”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

We enjoyed Mediterraneo. Food was very good especially the lomito
which was well presented and tasted very good. The pizza was very
too.

Service is very personal and friendly. The prices are great value overall.

We also thought the ambiance was warm and cozy.

“Xela Gourmet”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

Upstairs from the noise and activity, this restaurant has a number of small dining rooms and a bar. The menu is varied and diverse, I had an excellant seafood paella and glass of wine for under $13. Clean and good service, a good place for a quiet and special meal in Xela.

“Disappointing and a little strange ....”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

We visited this restaurant on a Tuesday evening and ordered four tapas between us expecting something very good given the ratings and the price for Xela. What we received was, except for one dish, very poor indeed. We ordered a fried octopus, which was ok, but very over-seasoned. A moussaka which was nothing more than a series of layered ingredients, with the potatoes being only just done. There was no marrying of flavours that one would expect with this dish. The third tapas we ordered was a straight-forward Hummus which came to the table hot ... Yes, hot! Maybe we are a little traditional in our tastes, but I enjoy my Hummus on the cold side with maybe a garnish of olives, cucumber and tomato. This final dish was returned to the kitchen.
Our thoughts, given other rave reviews of this restaurant, is that the owners were not present and the kitchen was left in the hands of someone that really didn't understand the food they were preparing. I hope that this is the case.
On a bright note, the waiter was gracious and attentive throughout and therefore received his deserved tip.

“Best restaurant in Guatemala”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

This excellent restaurant, located in the centre of Quetzaltenango, provides a romantic and warm environment to enjoy their fantastic tapas. We had a good red housewine to go with the "Lomo de Res Lisboa", pieces of tenderloin with a spectacular red wine and goat cheese sauce, and the "Gyros", pork with a greek flavor and a delicious garlic sauce. Both served with ample warm bread. A nice white wine was the perfect accompaniment to the seafood tapas: The "Camarones Karides", shrimp with mozarella cheese and tomatosauce served straight out of the oven - the kind of plate that will make you come back to this restaurant - and a superior salmon carpaccio. Food of this quality and taste is not easy to find in Guatemala and this combined with a good and friendly service and a very affordablke prize makes this my favorite restaurant in Guatemala.
