We stayed at this resort for three nights at the end of January 2014. Let me say that the entire staff of this family-run resort was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable! Our airplane was over two hours late in arriving at the Roatan airport, but the taxi driver we had arranged through the resort was still there waiting for us! WOW. And breakfasts at the restaurant were great.

We chose this resort because of its location ... close to town, right on the water, quaint-looking accommodations. We had read that the cabins were "rustic" and one should take that description literally. Certainly the salty ocean air is challenges any structure in its path! But we felt the cabin interior was very tired looking and would benefit from a little paint.

Stay away from the last set of double cabins. We were in the last cabin (farthest away from town) and were constantly besieged by a woman offering massage and hair braiding (her table was stowed under our side window which was a problem for our privacy during the day). As well, the gentleman who rents snorkel gear to non-guests had his table set up on the other side of our double cabin, which he manned from 8 AM till late afternoon. No wonder both of these people were staged in their locations ... cruise ship tourist buses parked directly behind our cabin and trotted groups of 30+ cruise tourists at a time past our double cabin and through the resort grounds so as to get to the dock for the glass bottom boat! If you are looking for a little peace and quiet, I'd recommend you book a cabin on the other end of the resort, closest to town.

Room Tip: Choose a cabin on the end of resort that is closest to town.

We stayed at Half Moon for three lovely nights. The room is a little rustic, but spacious enough, clean and charming. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of hot water. The location is great, set away from the main drag but just a short walk away. We loved out breakfasts at the hotel restaurant. Make sure you have the fitters! The staff here was great and really friendly. They hooked us up with beers late at night and always greeted us with a warm hello. We loved our waiter who booked us up with a great private snorkeling trip with the lovely Captain Arthur and was just a joy to be around. We also loved Sherry, the lady who takes care of cleaning the rooms. She is so sweet and will help you with anything that you need.

You can snorkel right out front of the hotel or relax in the beach chairs. This place is a great value in Roatan and it is easy enough to get into town for entertainment or to catch a water taxi to West Bay to hit the beach. We met lots of great people at Half Moon. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Living is easy when you are on vacation on Roatan! We had a fantastic time there. The location of Half Moon Resort is excellent - at the end of the road, so it's away from the traffic and hub bub of West End, but it's an easy walk to get to town. And it's right on the water with great access to snorkelling - just step into the water, put your mask on and go.

Half Moon's staff is excellent. From the managers to the wait staff to the housekeepers - each staffer is a pleasure to be around - easy to talk to, efficient, caring, and most of all - they are genuinely good folks.

The restaurant is decent - not super cheap, but reasonable and you get a nice sized plate of well prepared food served in a waterfront location.*See tips if you want super cheap!

Don't expect much from the rooms - they are very basic, older and much used and the units reflect that. They vary somewhat in configuration, size, condition, fixtures, furnishings and plumbing. That being said, the beds were fairly new and comfortable, the showers had plenty of hot water and the rooms were cleaned daily - complete with fresh towels. They also provide purified drinking water for guests too. We liked hanging out on our deck too!

The flow of cruise ship day tourists into Half Moon's waterfront area on most weekdays could be a bit annoying if you aren't prepared for the activity in and around the cabins and restaurant.

Overall, we were pleased to find this budget lodging option on Roatan. It worked out well for us and we have some great memories from our time there. We would go back there for sure.

Room Tip: -We liked the privacy and large size of the decks on the upper floors of the units in back. -Bring...

We stayed at the Half Moon Bay Resort for 13 days in January. The location is the best on the West End, a few minutes from town, just off the strip, and right on the bay. A perfect location for the sunset too. This is a family owned establishment, run by Rene and Matilda. They are committed to accommodate you in any way they can! Very nice people! I actually needed some medicine while i was there and Rene drove to the other side of the island to get it for me!
After we were there a few days, i felt we were treated like family. The entire staff is polite and very friendly. Sherry who was in charge of the rooms, checked with us each day to see if we needed anything. Our bed was very comfortable, the sheets, towels were nice and clean. The room itself had a fan and air conditioning. The restaurant was right on the water with free coffee and water all day and night. Free WIFI all the time, a big plus. The food in the restaurant was very good. The servers were polite, and very sociable. We made friends with all who worked there. It was a very comfortable and delightful stay.
This is a must for anyone on a budget. You cannot beat the price for what you get! Put in perspective the cost vs. what you get. You will have to pay much more if you want better accommodations. We will return next year to the West End and definitely will stay at The Half Moon Bay Resort.

I brought a small team of people here for 3 days and 2 nights of reflection and relaxation after a week of serving orphans in the eastern Puerto Lempira region of Honduras. Couldn't have picked a better place for the money! We flew into the Roatan airport. We hired a taxi to take us to the hotel. Cost was $25. He knew right where to go. We pulled down a very private looking road and ended up at this very shady resort. Check in was super easy. The rooms are not 5 star hotel quality. However, there was reliable electricity and hot water....which we didn't have for the week of work. My room was literally 62 paces from the ocean! Hammock graced the front of the room on the porch. Perfect for some shade relaxation. The customer service was exemplary. They will set you up with any excursions you would like to experience. Snorkeling and the gear is available at the resort. I took advantage of this and snorkeled close to the resort in the bay. I seen so many fish and didn't have to go to the reef to do so. Restaurants, grocery stores and all kinds of shops are within a short walking distance. We walked everywhere we went, even after dark (maybe not always recommended) without fear of anything. People everywhere were very accommodating and super nice. Most know English which makes it easier for us who are not fluent in Spanish. I will be making a return trip and I will be taking my wife to experience this resort.

Room Tip: Ask for the ocean view room for two!

If you want a great start to any or every day then you should start here. It is worth the drive or walk from almost anywhere on the island. I visited this location 3 times on my last visit to Roatan and was not disappointed. It is a lovely location for a great breakfast right on the water on the bay, although winds can bring in some waves to wet down the deck there is always a spot to enjoy. I always have the loaded omelet and have a hard time leaving. Have another cup of coffee and wait to move after a wholesome meal. Service is always great and look forward to returning. Thank you folks and keep doing great things.

A 5 minute walk into West End, Half Moon is a gem! The staff went above and beyond in their laid back, casual way to cater to our every need. The double cabins are a tad rustic with no glass windows and no tv but the sounds of nature abound. Great location to snorkel and stay.
