“Charming and Perfect”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

The reservation for our 3 night stay at Yat B'alam was easily made over the phone and confirmed via email. Upon arrival Doña Rina was there to greet us and get us settled into our room since we arrived in the evening. She even gave us a map and recommended several great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel is located one block from the parque central which places it conveniently next to all the right shops and restaurants, and gives it a great view of the mountains from the 2nd floor terrace. The hotel has four clean and quaint rooms on the second floor surrounding an open air terrace. The unique wood furnishings and beautiful light fixtures truly set this hotel apart. During our stay, other guests included friends traveling together, families, and a newlywed couple. This hotel really is great for every type of traveler. Warm showers, AC, incredibly soft sheets, and internet are among the amenities a guest can enjoy. The cafe downstairs serves breakfast and lunch from 7am-7pm and offers a great selection of homemade smoothies and pitas. The 3 boutiques associated with the hotel have so many beautiful gifts and offer a 5-10% off for hotel guests. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Copan for 1 night or 5 nights.

We highly appreciated Doña Rina's attention before and during the stay in Copán, in addition to the charmy and very clean room. A discount was offered without previous request, but breakfast had to be settled additionally.

We stayed just one night at Copan on a side-trip from Guatemala to visit the fantastic Maya ruins. The Yat B'alam was fantastic from the very moment of our arrival. Upon stepping out of the tuk-tuk already someone from the hotel came out to receive us and grab our luggage. Everybody knew already who we were and treated us in the most friendly manner. The room was larger than expected, comfortable and well-equipped, even with air conditioning which was helpful in the hot weather of Copan. Our room had sound-proof windows which guaranteed a good night rest after the intense walking we did in the ruins. The owner is not only friendly but also goes beyond her duties to advise and assist the guests.

While not on the square, Yat B'alam is worth being a block away. The hotel has only four rooms (upstairs - no elevator) which are neatly appointed. Downstairs is a cafe and a few shops. The atmosphere was great, the hotel had lots of charm and the service was excellent. One small note, the hot water is on a timer set to come on at 5:30 a.m. If you want a hot shower before then, let them know the night before! Coffe and breakfast was great at the cafe.

I have to admit that I wasn't sure I could believe all the glowing reviews others had submitted. But they were spot on. Our group of 12 people rented all 4 rooms and arrived on a very rainy July afternoon. The all female staff quickly insisted on taking all our luggage in the rain up the stairs to the rooms while we recovered from being drenched. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious by Honduran standards, though a bit small by US standards. The setting and decor more than made up for it -- cute bathroom and queen sized beds. I just wanted to sit at the outside tables and read, use the wi-fi, and drink their glorious $1.25 cappuccino. Breakfast was cooked to order, delicious, and also fairly inexpensive. Our entire group wished we had arranged to stay an extra night.

This boutique hotel is a great place to stay while visiting the sights of Copan. The hotel is small but well run. Rena is a real asset making you feel welcome and making sure you needs are taken care of. The hotel is kept very clean. The rooms are a good size and the air conditioning certainly helps make the stay comfortable. The restaurant makes a good breakfast at a very reasonable price. The lunch and dinner menu is simple but good. There are a couple of small shops that have locally make items of good quality. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely excellent hotel. Charming, beautiful, clean. Great location. Large, spacious rooms and luxurious bathrooms. The guest rooms have air conditioning which was an unexpected bonus. The staff is absolutely lovely and you will enjoy chatting with them. This is the place to stay in Copan Ruinas.
