We stayed at the Mar Jenny for 3 nights in August. We hadn't planned to stay there, but having peeled ourselves off a long distance bus we were met by various tuk-tuk drivers and touts extolling the place's virtues, so thought we'd give it a try...

We stayed for 3 nights, and I guess the place is OK in terms of value - we paid $30 for a family room. That said, the rooms are nothing special and the breakfast we got was rather basic. Our girls called the room "the banana room" after the yellow paint effect applied to the wall. Very psychedelic!

We stayed in a room downstairs - which appears to be next to an area where the owners' cars are parked and tinkered with, and bins are stored. So there was nowhere nice to sit out. I would say that the rooms upstairs are probably better in that regard - at least we'd have had a view. (We were told the rooms upstairs were full).

Given the number of hotels in Copan, and the scarcity of tourists right now, you may find you're able to get a better deal elsewhere..

Checked in there because it was late in the afternoon. The room seemed fine at first glance and good value at $5 per person. When we actually put our things there it became apparent that it was in a bed state of repair. No hot water as advertised. The windows don't close properly and it was noisy. Within 5 minutes of arriving a shirtless smoking guy knocked on the door and asked us if we wanted to go horseback riding.

After additional problems with the toilet we decided to move. They wouldn't refund any of our money although we had been there less than an hour. Don't stay there.

I stayed the night of May 30, 2010. Everything was clean. Beautifully
decorated public areas with oceans of nice ceramic tile and plants.
My single bed room was small but was only L$300(US$18)/night
and quite comfortable. Wifi is no extra charge if you bring a laptop.
Staff was friendly and helpful and spoke English. No restaurant in
the hotel but there are other good ones within a couple of blocks.
Plenty of hot water for the shower. My only gripe is the rooster next
door that gets up before dawn but it's no big deal. They even gave
me a ride to the bus station the next day. Good place to spend the
night and see the Copan Mayan ruins. Great value.

The Mar Jenny is a hotel under restoration, so the 2007 comments below don't apply. In fact, we were almost asphyxiated by the smell of fresh paint. Rooms are adequate, with good beds, and the bathrooms have been completely redone in tile. The hotel is a few blocks up from the center, but within easy walking distance.

The roms are arranged around a central "courtyard", and the family motorcycle and guest cars get parked there, meaning the possibility of early morning fumes and noise. The family lives off the courtyard, and there are children, so early sleep isn't guaranteed.

The Mar Jenny is adequate, clean, and comfortable. If the owner touts you at the bus station on arrival, see how low he'll go on the price. We got a triple for $18, and felt it was good value at that price.

The hotel in my opinion was great and convenient when I was there for one night in the spring of 2009. The family who own the hotel are nice and helpful. Its no five star hotel but its affordable, safe, and in a convenient location. You have the choice of three types of rooms. A single, double, or triple occupancy room. The one that I stayed in was the triple occupancy which is/was $25[total] and I had no problem. The triple room had 2 full size beds and one double, bathroom, ceiling fan, and towels. If your just looking for a place to stay than this is the hotel for you.ill try to put up photos:]

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in August of 2007. The room was filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for two months. There was a layer of dust-covered scum on the television and chunky bits of wet toilet paper on the floor. Our bathroom had an unscreened 1x2 foot hole where the shower's water pipes come into the room. There was used soap in the shower and I was scared to walk barefoot on the floor.
If you stay at this hotel, ask for a room away from the interior courtyard. If you're in a "courtyard" room, people will sit right outside your window (with only screens) talking early in the morning or late into the night.
At $5 per person per night, you get what you pay for. My brother stayed in a room across the hall and had a better experience. This hotel has hot water and strong fans.
