This was our first visit to a jungle and we were not disappointed! We took a taxi from the ferry and the driver did get a bit lost, but we made it just fine. When we arrived, I was in awe. It is absolutely gorgeous and the service is outstanding. We were greeted with cool, damp cloths and the Bonito Especial (my favorite drink!). Our luggage was whisked away to our room while we were given a tour of the gorgeous property.

The restaurant is indoor/outdoor and the food is awesome. The servers (in particular Mario and Howard) were all outstanding. Portions are large too. We stayed for 3 nights and there were still many things on the menu I wish we had been able to try.

Our cabin was #4. The cabins are all secluded and are very nice. We had AC in ours, but only ran it when we had a massage in our room. We loved the screened shutters so we could listen to the jungle all night long. There are so many new sounds that we were able to experience!

Definitely have a guide take you to do at least one hike and go to the butterfly pavilion and serpentarium. Some of these you can do on your own, but the information that you get from a guide is invaluable. German was our guide and was a wealth of knowledge about the jungle and the plants and animals in it. We thoroughly enjoyed him. The hike was a lot more rigorous than I had been anticipating, but was a great work out after eating so much good food.

There is a game room with a pool table, Foosball, Ping Pong, TV and card table. They also have tons of board games too. We spent a little time in here each evening after the sun had gone down.

The pool area is large with comfy loungers and towels and they will provide drink service while you are there relaxing. We were only able to spend a little time here one day since we wanted to do as many hikes and tours as we could in our short time, but I would have loved to have spent even more time just relaxing at the pool, enjoying cocktails while listening and watching nature.

We would love to return to the property and stay longer in the future. It is a ways from town and I had been concerned about that, but there is so much to do at the property and the food is so great that there really isn't a need to go anywhere else. Definitely go experience it for yourself!

A group of 8 us just spent six wonderful days in Honduras exclusively at Pico Bonito. I chanced to connect with James Adams at a Birding Festival and was invited to stay at the Lodge. The individual cabins lend a special touch to our stay as we awoke to the dawn chorus of singing birds. A comfortable walk down to the dining and reception area enhanced our experience. All of the staff bent over backwards to meet our needs and respond to our requests. Oh - and did I mention the welcome to Pico Bonito cocktail upon our arrival? The trip from the airport is a little over two hours, but the transport was prompt and efficient and we traveled in an air conditioned van, complete with pillows and soft drinks. Many activities are offered through the Lodge and arrangements can be made before arrival, including snorkeling trips, escorted hiking to the water falls and many birdwatching trips. If you are into birding as we are, this is the place to be.

Room Tip: I stayed in Cabin #2 which is fairly close to reception, pool, and dining areas. I found the closer rooms as easier access. My cabin had A/C and telephone with WIFI connections in the reception area. Bring your own hair dryer, but everything else seems to be included. Keep in mind that this is the tropics, so plan on probable afternoon rain and humidity as this is to be expected in this most beautiful habitat.

I returned to Pico Bonito in March. This time I took my wife and our two college kids. This place is like heaven to me but I wasn't sure how my wife would like it in the Honduran rain forest. She loved it here. This place is even better than I remembered it. The accommodations are first class and the service is over the top. When I thought I wanted something, it would be there. The food is improved from the last time here (and it was good then.)

Room Tip: All the cabins are great...we had an air conditioner but didn't need it.

This small eco friendly lodge of 22 cabins is a bird watching paradise with 408 different birds who call this lodge home. From the second you walk into the lobby and are offered a cold towel and a welcome beverage the experience just keeps getting better. The staff are friendly, efficient and are there to ensure every need is met! The Chef, restaurant and the Serving Staff are AMAZING! We actually used the adjective orgasmic to describe some of the food. The porches of the lodge and restaurant provide a place to relax as well as bird watch and meet your fellow guests. The local naturalist guides are Amazing, especially Jose. The cabins have every thing you need and the amenities are wonderful. The grounds are a gardeners paradise. Birds abound at every angle. Carlos took care of us in the Morning and Donello at night, great service with a Smile!

Room Tip: We had cabin 21, one of the farthest from the lodge. We loved sleeping to the sound of the rushing river and birds calling, we had the AC on but kept one window open to hear these sounds. Many nights the ceiling fans were enough. The hammock on the deck is a nice way to relax and take in the calls of nature. These rooms are great for couples or for two friends sharing as each of us had our own bed.

This was our 5th visit to the Lodge and we look forward to many more! The entire experience is first rate! The cabins provide serene comfort with good beds, hot showers, nice linens, robes, slippers, etc. the walkways are lovely and well tended. The pool area is gorgeous as is the lodge itself. The restaurant has great food, lovely ambience and a wonderful, helpful staff. From the welcome drink to departure, the entire staff makes sure you are well cared for.

Then, of course, there are the birds! Spectacular! The self guided hikes are beautiful, but the guides add a whole new experience. They are so knowledgeable and accommodating. As an avid birder, this is really why I come over and over. What fun! For those who aren't hikers, there are plenty of birds to be seen from the restaurant and pool areas or from the comfort of your private hammock on the deck of your cabin.

I almost forgot to mention the natural swimming holes. FabulousM

Room Tip: Ask for a room along the river trail by the feeders. But they're all great!
