“Might be good for Honduras”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

We stayed here with a group on a medical mission. The staff was incredibly solicitous and friendly. The rooms in the interior were quiet and everything was clean. Rooms on the outside not so quiet; and things like pillows were very inferior, shredded stuff that was not comfortable. I attempted to get more but none were available. Minimal towels provided, signs stated that more could be had for an additional charge. A/C was minimally effective, incredibly noisy and rattled all night long so sleeping was not possible prior to a 5 AM departure. The pool was very inviting in this hot city, but very cloudy on one of our two days, didn't feel comfortable swimming there. The food was OK but not great---things like Cremora for coffee are always a turn-off.

Room Tip: Ask for something in the interior facing the pool. Also it may be that the A/C units high up on the...

We stayed here for one night before catching the ferry next morning. The rooms and other hotel areas show their age (could use a coat of paint), but everything was extremely clean. The hotel staff was incredibly helpful. We had problems with the AC, and the manager promptly came to our room and fixed it within minutes. Beds were comfortable enough, pillows less so. Cute bar area near the pool- nice landscaping. Mixed drinks so-so (margarita very limey), but beer good and cold. Pizza hut next door, but we wanted to go out to a more 'local' place. When we asked the manager for his suggestions, he offered to drive us a few miles to an area where there were more choices (we ate at The Garage- excellent ceviche). Cab ride back to hotel cost $1.20. Breakfast the next morning at the hotel was quite good, and checkout quick and efficient.

This hotel was used as the joining up and departure point for the group I used to go to Cayos Cochinos. We did not actually spend the night in one of the rooms. We did eat breakfast in the restaurant, which was quite good--the American Breakfast included eggs, toast, bacon or sausage, fresh fruit juice, and a hot beverage of your choice for 6 USD. Service was reasonably good and efficient. There is a nice pool area. There is also comfortable seating in the lobby with a very fast (for Honduras) internet connection. The staff we interacted with were all friendly and professional with decent English skills. The public bathrooms behind the pool area were clean and well supplied. I felt safe inside the hotel, although La Ceiba itself, including the part of town the hotel is in, seemed somewhat seedy.

I say pretty good; because the staff made it so. From Monday to Wednesday eating in the restaurant did not cause me any upset and staff went out of their way to be helpful especially at reception by keeping me informed of travel options when a storm delayed the journey.

We (couple, 40 & 50 years old) stayed at Gran Hotel Paris in October 2013 for one night and paid $80. Our room with a private bathroom was large and clean. Gran Hotel Paris is a typical western style hotel. Next time I would look for a better value.

The hotel itself is nice. The room was clean and the service at the front desk (and the bellhop--yes, they have a bellhop) was wonderful. We didn't use the pool since we were just staying over night and were too tired, but the atmosphere was nice. The restaurant, however, was another story. It had come highly recommended by an expat couple that apparently has been living there for 25 years, but it left much to be desired. It is an old-school kind of place (left over from a bygone era) where the servers wear bow ties and put the napkin in your lap. This, in its own right, was not a problem at all! However, we were unaware of this fact until we were already seated and feeling uncomfortable for having worn shorts to dinner. Our fault. Then we looked at the prices. Considering that it was not recommended for us to leave the hotel to find food at night, we sucked it up and ordered from the hotel restaurant. The food was mediocre (overly salty, heavy on the garlic, and didn't seem fresh), and we were charged (accidentally) the roomservice price for our dinner (15% difference!). They refunded our money when we confronted them about it, but we were happy to not have to relive the experience. Basically, this is a great, safe, clean option for an overnight stay in LaCeiba, but don't expect good, reasonably-priced food.

We stayed here for just one night on our way back from Roatan and it was a pleasure to say the least, we arrived without a booking and the staff were very accommodating and up graded up free of charge to a king sized bed, the room was beautiful, lovely bed and wonderful bathroom, the pool was a nice treat too, despite not eating there we enjoyed a beer and margarita by the pool. The staff where lovely, the location great and good value for money, please note do not book online you will get a far better deal if you just show up and talk to them, expect to pay around $L1000 value for such a lovely change from Honduran hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool, inside not facing the main road, and inquire about a king sized bed...
