The Georgia Museum of Art isn't located in Atlanta. Or any suburb of Atlanta. It's at the University of Georgia, in Athens. It's a nice size museum, that doesn't require you to plan your whole day around. And the frequently changing exhibits make it easy to go back to again and again. I've seen several exhibits including students and faculty, which are always thought provoking. And the permanent galleries have some wonderful gems that you can get quite attached to. And best of all it's free. They sometimes ask for a $2 donation, but always in a very Southern, polite way with no pressure attached. Hours are: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Closed on Mondays and state holidays.
