“wonderful stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2008

Made reservations here after reading other reviews. Was not disappointed from check-in to check-out. Hotel is absolutely gorgeous!!. Room was very spacious and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful as well. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

The hotel looks like a standard hotel from the outside but is very nice on the inside. This hotel opened around February 2008 and all the rooms and facilities are like new. The staffs were excellent and very accommodating when I needed early check in and late check out due to our soccer schedule. The rooms are very nice with flat panel TVs and small refrigerators. I didn't use it in the room but the wireless internet in the lobby appeared to be nice and fast. Two large flat panel TVs in the lobby with leather couches made for a comfortable meeting place to eat lunch between games. They also have free, fresh from the oven, chocolate chip cookies at the front desk if you feel like dessert! The price of the rooms were about $30 higher than other places we have stayed in town but I feel like it was worth the extra $ and will definitely stay here next time.

  • Liked — The facilities and staff were excellent.
  • Disliked — The breakfast was good but lacked variety compared to other places I have stayed.

We recently stayed at the Country Inn and Suites and were pleased all around! The property is new and looks very upscale for a Country Inn. The fitness facility is small but nice with TVs on the cardio machines. The free continental breakfast one of the best that I have seen. We found our new home when we travel to Athens!

Particulars: We stayed on 07/04/08 for two nights in room 307, a double queen suite, for $122/nt for AAA members and booked through Country Inns website. There was very low occupancy both nites - couldn't have been more than twenty cars in the parking lot either night.

General Info: The hotel just opened this spring and has no noticeable wear/tear yet. It had a very attractive atrium with the rooms on floors 2-4, and the lobby, sitting areas, business center (two computers & a printer) and eating area on the first floor, along with the pool and small fitness center.

Location: Western side of Athens, roughly halfway between downtown and western fringe shopping areas. Less than five minutes to either downtown or fringe shopping. McDonald's & Applebees just across road, and a number of other eateries (Taco Bell, Wendy's, other sit-downs) w/i a ten minutes walk.

Pool: The pool area was pretty generic, but very clean. The pool was reasonably warm and ran 3'-5'. The hot tub was downright hot. Not very thrilled w/the hot tub, as the jets were so violent, that only roughly three people could sit in it without being overwhelmed, plus the seating was very deep. I'm 5'10, and the water came up to my chin. I mentioned the hyperactive jets to the front desk manager, and she said most people complain about them being too wimpy. However, they were so vigorous that they were spurting water above the top of the tub onto the deck continuously.

Room: I didn't have any problem with the shade in 307 - it worked just fine in completely dampening the outside light (including the parking lot lights). The shade against the front door (which opens inside to the atrium) was a little low, causing some minor light to flow into the living room area. However, our room had a full door between the living room and bedroom, so that wasn't an issue. All furniture, including the beds, were very comfortable and the digital thermostat was spot on w/making the room comfortable, esp. in the Georgia heat of early July.

Bathroom: The bathroom itself was very clean w/a combo tub, toilet and single sink, but the tub is what caused this hotel not to get a fully excellent rating. While most hotel tubs tend to be designed for shorter than normal people (I'm 5'10" and cannot put my legs flat in most hotel tubs), this one was ridiculous. I would sincerely doubt anyone over 5'2" could put there legs flat and rest comfortably in the tub. When I addressed this with the front desk manager mentioned above, she said all the tubs were built the same way, aside from those in the handicapped rooms.

Food: The breakfast bar was average. It had small sausage patties, folded over triangles of eggs/cheese, some danishes, cereal, yogurt (just Raspberry) and an assortment of juices, coffee & milk. Nothing to get excited about. There were cookies and mints on the front desk at all times.

Miscellaneous: The air fresheners in the elevators were a tad overwhelming, but I suspect that might be from very low occupancy (doors not opening enough).

  • Liked — Exceptionally clean and very comfortable (exc. for bathtub).
  • Disliked — Ridiculously short bathtub and overwhelming hot tub.

Pros: excellent room- very attractive and spacious. Four star quality. Outstandingly comfortable queen mattresses with lightweight blankets and comforters. Digital thermostat which seemed to work well and sufficiently cooled the room. Also, public areas were well airconditioned.

Very nicely landscaped property with lots of plantings and palm trees along the periphery and by the hotel. There's not much in the way of landscape though- just a big parking lot. Staff was friendly. No charge for parking. Indoor swimming pool with a small outdoor area for sunning.

Cons: marginal room darkening via inadequate window treatments. The one room darkening drape was not enough for the blinding parking lot lights and morning sun. There's an additional decorative drape with vinyl/rubber (?) room darkening backing but it can't be closed. This is a flaw- the hotel should shorten the decorative drapes so that they won't cover the a/c/heating window unit and re-do the top so that they can be fully closed. Currently, the amt of light entering the room is equivalent to one or two night lights on all night long.
Another option is to sleep in the bed furthest from the window.

Breakfast buffet is included but very mediocre with off flavors typical of chain hotels.

Flat screen tv in the room but oddly, no digital channels.

The lobby is a little garish with brightly patterned carpeting- bowever, room decor was more subtle and attractive and typical of a higher end property.

The hotel is about half a block from the Hampton Inn but set back from main roads so no street noise could be heard.

Downtown Athens is a more desirable location but I would stay at this hotel again because of the comfort level of the room and freshness of the property. The rate was also very reasonable at 110 per night.

  • Liked — exceptional mattresses, good climate control, very attractive and spacious room
  • Disliked — inadequate room darkening and location not as desirable as downtown

We drove down to Athens to attend G-Day and stayed at the Country Inn and Suites. Granted it is a new hotel but it was by far the cleanest and most accommodating place we have ever stayed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, my children loved the pool and the breakfast was terrific!! We will definitely stay here again.
