“Very well executed meat and two, but recently raised prices”
Reviewed 20 October 2012

Weaver D's was recently hit by the economy and almost had to close their doors due to lack of customers. Once that news hit, the town rallied around the institution. However, prices keep crawling upward, and our bill was over $20 for 2 lunches, and that seems high. I'll keep coming back, though because so far its the best fried chicken I've found in town. So far everything I've tried there has been a hit.

“Get there early!”
Reviewed 11 September 2012 via mobile

I had the fried chicken and it was better than my grandmother or mother always made. I also had their fried corn which you don't see on menus anymore. I had green beans, lemonade and to finish it off the banana pudding. Service was friendly and quick! The only thing they could do better is have a bigger parking area so get there early. And make sure your hungry. When I ask who made the fried chicken Mr. D said they all did. So if you like country cooking don't pass this place up. They are closed on Sunday. If I come back to Athens I know where I'm eating. Weaver D's, AUTOMTIC FOR THE PEOPLE!!!

“An Athen's Classic”
Reviewed 28 August 2012

This is a place where everyone in Athens should eat at least once. Sure it has the history with REM but the food is quick and tasty. Inside its small and has picnic table seating, the walls are crowded with REM memorabilia, its a dive but in all the right ways. Theres no waiters, you're given a styrofoam cup which you can fill from one of the large jugs of drinks. You then go to the kitchen window with your plastic plate and talk to the cook to get your main and sides. Its classic fried southern comfort food. Meaning fried chicken/catfish/porkchops and classic sides like cornbread, collards, and black eyed peas. The food is good and cheap.

“Soul Food”
Reviewed 11 August 2012

Great soul food in Athens! This place is also a landmark for those who are fans of R.E.M., as their album title "Automatic for the People" came from Weaver D's slogan.
