“Safety Police have ruined it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

Like many things on the Hawaiian Islands, the fear of liability has ruined this attraction. You can no longer approach the cave entrance because of rocks falling inside years ago. You get a boat ride up the river and a walk through the jungle, then you view the grotto and cave from 100' away. Save your money.

“No grotto access”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We took a river cruise and grotto visit with Roberts Hawaii. Once we got to the cave we got to take pictures and listen to the Hawaiian wedding song and dance. Seems we can no longer visit the cave
So to me it is not worth the visit

“It was OK”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

I wasn't going to do this but then I went ahead and did it. I wish I didn't. It was a waste of money. Not much to see and not interesting at all. Money gone down the drain. I would only recommend doing this if you are super bored. You should instead go to the beach and relax

“A little disapointed...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

Our first time to the Fern Grotto was 20 years ago on our honeymoon. We were disappointed that we could no longer walk into the cave. According to the guide, there was a period of heavy rain and the boulders on top of the cliff came tumbling down. Now, we can only view the Fern Grotto from a wooden deck. There was heavy vegetation between the deck and the Fern Grotto so your photos will just look like a rain forest background.

The boat cruise is a relaxing way to enjoy the river and scenery. On the way back, there are some hula demonstrations and singing.

It never occurred to us that we wouldn't be able to access the cave, so it was a let down when we arrived. On the bright side, we got a discount on our admission because we were AAA members.

“Very beautiful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

My husband and I took the boat cruise to the Fern Grotto to renew our wedding vows. The boat ride there was very pretty and when we got there started to feel rushed through the experience. The sang the wedding song, we kissed then they expected everyone back to the boats quickly. I felt I spent our money and we would hang out a bit, and enjoy the beauty of the area. When we got back we seen all the other visitors were already on the boat? Why be in such a hurry, you are in HAWAII, chill out and enjoy the view. The boat personnel were not at all irritated that we were last so why hurry. So if you take this journey, enjoy it and don't let them make you feel rushed.
