“Absolutely worth the 5 minute detour.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

For an undidsturbed view of the razor-back mountains dropping into the lush valley expanse, hard to beat.

“Beautiful View But Not Much Else”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2013

Menehune Fish Pond is literally a pool of water for fish. It is in a nice location with some decent photo opportunities but there is nothing really here to keep your attention. With so many things to see on Kauai, would probably suggest skipping this. If you have seen a lake, you have seen the Menehune Fish Pond. The reason it gets so many visitors is that it has rich history since local legend says the Polynesians built it in a single night.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2013

Initially, this pool of water did not impress us. At first glance, it appeared to be a small lake sitting in a somewhat picturesque valley. But, after hearing about its history, this pond became pretty interesting to us.

According to legend, long before the Polynesians settled the Hawaii islands, a mystical race of forest dwelling "little people" (called the Menehune) with superb engineering skills constructed this fishpond in a single night about 1,000 years ago.

Whether you believe the local lore or not, this remnant of ancient Hawaiian aquaculture is worth a visit if you're in the Lihue area.

“Beautiful Look-out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2013

Okay, it is not a Disney kinda stop, but seeing it and reading about it, if you have not already done your research, is a great look-out.
It is a "Gotta Go" kinda place.

“The clue is in the name!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013 via mobile

It's a pond. For fish. Other than that it is in a very pretty valley location and there are some obvious photo opps. So, five stars for being a great example of the fish pond..... but that's about all.
