We visited fairly early in the day, and found few others at that time. While there is a paved walk from the entry to a waterfall at the far end of the park, there are also numerous side paths to explore and experience the beautiful plants and scenery. We visited in late March, and experience some light drizzles, then a heavy downpour - fortunately just at the time we arrived at covered areas near the waterfall. Be prepared for a variety of weather, at least in the early spring season!

It is a beautiful setting, staff is sort of not helpful, but nice enough. There is a charge to enter, $15 per person. You can go in the waterfall, but I think the. Best part is just all of the plants and the climate there.

This place is worth not only one visit, but many. Objects of interest are so diverse that there is something exciting for everyone. They are well covered in other reviews. And, first of all, this is extremely beautiful and peaceful place. Some practical tips are:
Free admission every third Sunday of a month
Special discounts for seniors and local people
A pass to national parks is not accepted.
Don't forget to bring your swimming costume and a towel.
Life jackets for swimming under the waterfall is available on-site and are free of charge.

The walking tour of the garden is really nice, and the best opportunity you'll ever have to see a wide range of South Pacific island plants all in one area. There are more varieties of hibiscus than I ever knew existed, and I particularly enjoyed checking out the ginger garden area.

However, the hands-down best part of the park is swimming into the pool at the base of Waimea Falls. The pool has life guards stationed there, and you must wear a life jacket (provided) into the pool. Leave your shoes on--the bottom is pretty rocky until you get out deep enough to swim. There is something about the water in the pool...it feels invigorating and healing, and I felt such joy swimming there. It was wonderful. I am so glad I didn't miss it!

For those that are gardeners and have skills and knowledge of Plants,Trees and Shrubs Waimea Arboretum will be a wonderful experience. For people that just enjoy the beauty of nature this trip will be one of the high points of your vacation on the Hawaiian Islands.

On the North Shore of the Island there are many beautiful beaches and restaurants and famous Shrimp Trucks nearby. Plenty of parking with a snack bar and souvenir shop both of which were nice.

If you bring your swim suits there are changing rooms and a waterfall to swim under with life guards. The walk is about 3/4 of a mile on a nicely paved path with many loops and spurs to view a huge variety of plants and trees. Many birds make this deep valley their home too.

There are powered shuttles to take you up to the falls for $6.00 round trip or $4.00 one-way back from the falls; all ages and abilities will enjoy this excursion especially the children for a swim!

Self-guided and guided tours are available. $15 adult entry fee.
