Being a local, I love on my way home from school to stop at Kualoa and have a picnic. Its always beautiful there no matter the weather and I love it there.

For tourists, you can snorkel to the island. I say SNORKEL because you shouldn't WALK THERE. There is a REEF there and it contains animal life that is struggling to live under the circumstances of people walking on it all day. For the people who don't care about the animals, have fun stepping on the urchins that live in the reef or getting attacked by a friendly eel attempting to live in the dying coral :)

The island is not anything special. It cool to say you were there… Overall, I would say come for the picnic. Its not a swimming beach in my opinion.

I've been to Kualoa Ranch before and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. It's an uncrowded corner of the island and feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. It is definitely worth a visit while you're on the island. The question is- which tours to choose.....

The Ocean Voyage was a nice and relaxing boat tour and definitely worth the price. But the description indicates the boat goes out near Chinaman's hat. This is the reason we selected this tour and what we were most looking forward to. But the boat didn't really get anywhere near the island. Though the views of the island were nice, you get a better view from the roadside outside the ranch. I would recommend the tour- a peaceful ride with great views for a great price. But you'll be disappointed if you're looking for close up views of Chinaman's hat.

We also did the 2 hour horseback tour at the ranch. It was a really nice ride through some incredible scenery- mountains rising up on each side of the trail. You also pass by many spots where movies were filmed and the guides pointed out each one and explained which scene was filmed there. The guides were really knowledgeable and friendly. They used our own cameras to take pictures of everyone along the tour which was nice because most places around the island take your picture at the start of your experience and then charge you an arm and a leg for it.

Overall it was a nice day at the ranch and the scenery alone is worth the visit. The views are breathtaking and get 5 stars from me. Living in Hawaii the crowds can really wear on you so the slow pace of this part of the island is a nice respite. But all tours are not created equal so be sure to read up before making your choice. I've now done 3 different tours here- the 1 hour ATV tour which I would rate 4 stars (reviewed May, 2013), the Ocean Voyage which I would rate 2 stars, and the 2 hour horseback riding tour which I would rate 4 stars. That being said, the Horseback and ATV tours are 4X the cost of the other tours on the ranch so they should be the best ones.

Also- if you have a kitchen or grill while on the island I would definitely recommend picking up some fresh, grass fed steaks while at Kualoa. They were delicious!

Tour a waste of time. The "Secret Island" is not really an island. Not secret and not private. Whole experience seemed to be geared to teenagers.

We took 4 wheel drive tour. Was nice. However we had just completed the tour at the Macadamia Nut Outlet less then a mile away and the other tour was less expensive and by far better, Not a bad tour though. Tour was $27 and about 1/2 an hour or so. The Macadamia Nut Outlet tour was $20 and 1 1/2 hours with a bus ride lots of interaction and a boat ride. If you can only do one do the tour at the Macadamia Nut Outlet. $20 cash in the back behind the store.

First day we drove over the Palis to this park. What a great place. Quiet, with facilities to change and use restroom. Not too many people there - we went on a THU morning. Enjoyed laying out, walking, snorkeling and views of Palis and the "Chinamen's Hat" island. Didn't see too many fish, but the setting was very relaxing
